"The picture instead of one thousand words"

in #history7 years ago

The phrase "the picture instead of one thousand words" was thought up by the American editor of the newspaper Artur Brisbeyn in 1911. This simple combination of words which approaches many aspects of our life, but especially – to historical photos. One simple picture can sometimes tell about the past much more, than long articles and chronicles.

Crash of the Hindenburg airship, on May 6, 1937.

The circus hippopotamus harnessed in the vehicle, 1924.

Annie Edson Taylor – the first who has survived, having overcome Niagara Falls in a flank, in 1901 (she was 63 years old!).

Children's cages that the child living in the apartment received enough sunlight and fresh air. 1937.
