Gorefest - False guitar cover

in Guitar3 years ago

Gorefest has been one of my favorite band for many many many (did I say many?) years now. I first heard them on a mix tape a colleague of my mom made for me with all kinds of metal bands when I was around .. 14 years old I believe.

I remember that I listened around that ago to metal for the first time when I snatched a tape for my walkman to listen to while biking to school and I was so blown away by it. That tape was the Live Shit: Binge and Purge record from Metallica.

But the mix tape that I'd gotten contained the Song "The Idiot" from Gorefest. I really liked that song and rewinded the tape over and over so I could listen to it. The song is from the album Chapter 13. It didn't receive much good reviews because it sounds quite different than their previous work, but I really like the songs on it.

The best memory of the band that I have is when they played in the Bibelot in Dordrecht, which was an old church used for concerts. It really had a special vibe inside and that night it wasn't crowded at all. I specifically remember that at the end of the show I was standing at the front in front of the singer. Now ... I'm a tiny guy (1.70m) and (at least to me) he is a giant and combined with the growl opening after the intro of The Glorious Dead left such a lasting impression.

Sadly, they decided to quit for a second time after their album Rise to Ruin (2007) which is one of their best albums in my opinion.

In this video, I covered the song False which is one of their more well known songs from their second album (1992).
I've recorded 2 guitar tracks and used POD Farm for the sound.

The chain in the POD Farm is : Screamer (FX-1) -> Line 6 Spinal Puppet (amp) -> 4x12 Brit Celest V-30s -> American Classic
The song is in B-tuning.

You and your twin do a great job. I've never heard of the band. Some nice riffs in there. The two guitars work well together. Great tone too.

Rock on!

Sadly, I look like my twin haha

That's a mighty big sound for a tiny guy! I've never played in any tuning other than the occasional drop D or open E for slide. I do love the "growl" of drop C or even B though. Nice!

well, you can't just drop down the tuning from E to B haha.

It depend massively to what kind of strings you use and the setup of the guitar itself in order to have it sound good and playable. I used the d'addario NYXL1254 set. I swear by the NYXL string-line. They're a bit more expensive than regular strings, but they pay it back massively.
