Good on you to have taken videos of the interactions as the events unfolded. I'm surprised the scammer didn't leave sooner once he realized your documented evidence would not be in his favor and you were firmly standing your ground.
Some scammers are very effective at what they do, others are like this guy, looking for people he thinks are vulnerable that he can exploit. He found out the hard way.
I think here in Portugal if there were no damages whatsoever in the cars it would be a bye-bye and that's it. I would love to see the portuguese police being called to a accident scene without any victims/damage to the vehicles... :)))
Same here, most people would just deal with it privately, no one wants to involve the police unless they have to. I think if someone calls the police, they can't ignore the call so they just treat us as very low priority.
People will try to exploit such incidents. I once shunted a van at a junction. There was some damage that I left to the insurance, but I had a long letter sent to me detailing how both guys in the van had whiplash. It's probably hard to prove. I sent it on and never heard any more. It's good that you weren't intimidated.
The other party sent you that letter directly? They got the nerve!! What did they expect you to do? Apologize
and send them a cheque, what a bunch of noob heads 😂😂😂
You have steel nerves and excellent self-control. Good that you was not alone out there in the night with that cheeky scammer. And you left no chance for him, bravo!
Just in, he seen your blog and has 💸 in his eyes again. Wow a little love tap between the vehicles and all of sudden he thinks he entitled to many things. The video, well done and he was wrong it did good. A fool like him would have went home and damaged his vehicle to make it appear so, the video is proof it really did nothing. I still remember James (?) who did work in your home. I hope you don't have any more stories or run into any more drama individuals.
Ah! James! You have such a good memory! That was quite painful as well.
As to this particular taxi driver, he's just so stupid, did he really think I'd let him walk away and give me a list of damages the next day? Happy days!!
I sometimes recall some events in the past, hehe. Well it's good you had a sense of his stupidity and didn't fall for any of his tactics 😀 Happy days ahead for you as well!
Always taxi drivers. I reversed into a parking spot once and a taxi driver pulled up tight behind me and I just clipped the corner of the car. Zero damage, details exchanged, photos were taken, insurance sorting everything. Within an hour I got a call from one of these no-fee lawyers who I told to fuck off and referred them to my insurance. Two months later, I get a letter from them saying she was claiming thousands due to her being injured, no longer able to ride a horse or do the ironing and for lost work ....the amount of bullshit you just couldn't make up. My insurance company were brilliant though and said they had a team who were fighting abusers like this and told me not to worry as they were sending their legal team to fight her. Rather unsurprisingly, she dropped the case. It was actually her private team of no-win no-fee lawyers who were pursuing this, it turned out her actual car insurance company wouldn't take it on. Absolute scum. people wanting something for nothing.
I'm glad you fought back. Sadly most don't which means these low lives get away with it.
Those no fee lawyers are just as bad, or even worse coz they know the system. They just need a handful of wins to make their operation worthwhile and their clients gets 2p if they're lucky
It's such a sad thing to behold people who are out to scam tourists. The mentality of some people are so backwards, there is no helping them. If they would put as much energy into real work as they do to scamming, they would be much better off.
Ha ha! I feel this can equally be applied to all the scammers on Hive. They spend so much time trying to game the system that you wonder why they don't just focus on doing the right thing
Haha I enjoyed reading this @livinguktaiwan. All those scratches, and not one from your car😅 What a chancer, trying to make a quick buck...whiplash too...the poor fellow😂
There are so many scammers out there! Funnily I wrote about my son as well as my experience a little earlier! Seems like it is scammers season, getting close to Christmas, they're starting early to get a bonus payout😅
The more I think about this incident
as time goes on, the funnier I think it is. I'm sure if we were there for longer, he'd think of more things to scam me!!
Haha, I wouldn't be surprised, he was inventive enough, whiplash of all things! Maybe he was knocked out by the 'crash', that's why it took so long to get out his car😂
Ha that little ending there got me for a second xD though imagine being a scammer for real and doing that. What a night. I seriously hope this guy thought twice before trying to pull anything like that again! :D
You see he was waiting around knowing that he was going to miss orders that he could take... Instead he was hoping on someone giving him a bigger paycheck and fortunately you were one step ahead of the game!
Heck he even phoned the insurance company, dang! Imagine how stupid he must feel after the entire event when everyone told him nah!
I seriously hope I never fall into a pickle jar like this! Hectic stuff!
I can imagine you giving them a piece of your mind if that happened to you.
However I hear things can be really bad in South Africa, it's really worrying the stories I hear from some friends there. I just wonder how is it safe to get out in such a beautiful country when you have to worry about so much 😟
I'd sure as hell head butt the man 😅 if it was in South Africa!
Regarding SA... well you know people tend to overexaggerate when telling or passing on something bad... right....
It's bad... but it's not that bad. There are parts to avoid and if you keep an open mind you'll be fine... (like don't go walking at night, lady alone... then you'll be unsafe! No matter which country you are)
We've a lot of safe places but they are growing less and less through the years, however with the new joint ruling parties or whatever they had meshed up after the elections.. well after that I have noticed an incline in police presence and somewhat cleaner streets so they are trying ( not hard enough but they are)
wowwwwww, that is crazy and even cooler how you kept your cool on this. Ofcourse you have that feeling of a scammer, but actually waiting all that time to let it play out. I think I would have been a lot more annoying than you.
Nice, educational story... :) I like the video footage that you made! It's important to stay cold-headed in these situations, record and remember as many details as possible...
Good job. They are called bumpers for a reason. There are a lot of scammers on the road, all hoping for a payout from the insurance companies and court system.
Wow! I was so engrossed from the beginning to the end. It was as if I was present at the scene, the way you narrated the scenario. It was a relief you got to know one time that the taxi driver tried to outsmart you or scam you if that is the right word to use. I would love to know what happened to him in the end. If he got away with it or punished for it.
Despite not having popcorn I really enjoyed your story 🤭. I hope the cab driver learned his lesson. Opportunists and scammers are everywhere, it's a shame, but that's life. All that's left is to be vigilant and prepared to identify them and act shrewdly so as not to fall victim to them. Greetings.
Scammers will never learn, it's in their DNA to scam because they have nothing to lose, but yes, it's very important to be vigilant all the time to protect ourselves
A perfect example of the idiom "hit an axe on your own foot".
You really got the nerves of steel, Many tourists actually become worried when the police are involved but the scammer didn't know this is livinguktaiwan fighting against scammers on hive, haha.
What a night! I can feel the exhaustion on your part. You are Chinese so the driver surely thought that you were a tourist and can be fooled easily, lol. That should serve him a lesson and people reading this should be aware of this scam.

Bloody hell, some people are just — terrible. The best punishment he can get is as you say nothing, total failure to win over people.
My late father-in-law was targeted in a multi-storey car park several years ago when a group of people in a car deliberately bumped into him as he as trying to reverse out of his space. It later turned out the group of women in the car had been scamming people.
Although I don't have a car, I would like to have one and my dad and brother do and your bad or good experience helped me to learn how to deal with this kind of people with any inconvenience.
In the picture the guy looks very threatening, calling the rental company just to cause more trouble is too much, well done he didn't get away with it, he has very bad intentions.
Scammers are everywhere in life you just have to get very careful with strangers. The same on Hive, my trust level of new accounts is very low, they will have to prove themselves before they get any support

Never mess with @livingukintaiwan!
P.S. I adore your voice!!!
Luckily I was trying to grow my YouTube channel back in those days, so was sensitive in documenting lots of things.
Thank you 😄
There were parts of my video where I was nearly shouting with frustration, I figured I'd spare everyone with those sounds 😄
You've got a heart of granite, you can see he's in agony! 🤣
It got quite funny in the end, especially when the police were grilling him 😂
Some scammers are very effective at what they do, others are like this guy, looking for people he thinks are vulnerable that he can exploit. He found out the hard way.

I just hope he was punished for what he did, but I doubt it. The insurance company is likely to just to reject his claim and close the file.
He'll be free to try his scams again and again until he's successful, eventually he'll be a pro, unless he is stopped.
That's unreal! 😂

Absolutely Bravo!
If I wasn't in my own hometown maybe I would be a little more worried. He totally picked the wrong person to mess with 😄

😁 I had a lot of fun with this story. I know it was exhausting hours for you, but there is a moral: equanimity! You are my hero! Lol.
No 🤣
It was definitely quite annoying back then, but now thinking back, it's very hilarious on how stupid he is
No, I thought it would stay there, but when I read below that you got a call from the rental agency hahaha... crazy!
By the way, how do you manage to upload several 3speak videos in one post? That got me thinking. I don't know anything about life. Hahaha...
I uploaded them from my alt account first as it doesn't get any upvotes there. Then I embedded the links to this post. Am I your hero again 😂😂😅
😄 How clever! Yes!

Knowing them, they probably try to pull one off whenever the opportunity arises!!
WHAT THE HECK!
You see he was waiting around knowing that he was going to miss orders that he could take... Instead he was hoping on someone giving him a bigger paycheck and fortunately you were one step ahead of the game!

Luckily I was with my husband and in familar surroundings, so was quite comfortable waiting. And I had plenty of time to waste, unlike him. 😁
Nice, educational story... :) I like the video footage that you made! It's important to stay cold-headed in these situations, record and remember as many details as possible...
Well done!
Those videos really helped, and me having to repeat my story three times within 12 hours helped to keep all the details afresh
Good job. They are called bumpers for a reason. There are a lot of scammers on the road, all hoping for a payout from the insurance companies and court system.
Exactly! I have no idea why he think my little Corsa would cause any damage to his vehicle, absolutely ridiculous!

I'm doubt the insurance would punish him in any way, but I wish they would. Scammers shouldn't be allowed to try scam people like that

Tourists are prime targets for scammers and it's such a pity because a handful of such scammers can ruin the reputation of a city
True. But not all are smart enough lol.
Scammers, here there and everywhere, I would not have been as polite as you tbh.
I have only had one attempt on me and that was by text. Excuse my French
So a short message swap took place
Keep up the good work!!!
Haha!! What a total idiot 🤣
Need help with winter fuel payments? I just got another one this morning
Oh my days lol, you ain't even old enough to qualify

Wow! A whole group of pros, were they setting up honey traps as well? Hope your late father in law didn't suffer any damagess
He was fine and the insurance company were very helpful and the crooks didn’t get what they wanted.
The post was very good. Regards @livinguktaiwan
Scammers are everywhere in life you just have to get very careful with strangers. The same on Hive, my trust level of new accounts is very low, they will have to prove themselves before they get any support
