Well Hello There Horsepower Lovers!!
Another Day And Another Ford!
Well that is what we do here on a daily basis! Fords! Especially so on a Friday! Us and a Friday and a Ford! Oh that is a lovely combination! A lovely one!
Okay I would have to say that I am not at all fond of these manuals transmissions but they are part of the job and we have to get them out! At-least this is just a little five speed and they teardown hard but I think the 6 speed tearsdown a little harder!
Snip Right Here!
I am actually a little proud of myself! These Ford transmissions kept me up at night because they teardown so hard but now it's actually one of the easier one's to tear down for me! Practice really does make perfect ey!
So I still have some stuff to remove in the bell-housing! Those are a bitch and to think I was afraid of those aswell!
Those Pesky Seals!
Some of the hardest seals to remove are these!
Heck getting them out is a real pain! You have to punch a hole in them and then try and wedge them out! Now this does look really easy! I know it does but performing the task is not as easy as you'd think it is!
The seal with the shaft pushing through it is the real problem! You also have to punch a hole in it and the problem there is that you must not damage the machined off part that runs directly on the seal lip! Those would cause some serious leaks!
There is more silicone on this seal than six transmissions that I tear down! This is insane! Who even works like this? Those seals don't need to have sealant on them, what's the point of having a seal and then having to add sealant? Defeats the purpose right?
Hammer Time!
Hell yeah! This is the most fun part of this exercise!
Grab Thor's hammer and hammer away baby!
One hit on the shaft and one hit on the input shaft and so forth! Until the entire setup fall out of the bell-housing.
This one was a real hard hitter and they don't normally sit so tight but it might be that this one ran a little hot in its time!
Whelp hammer away!
Split in half and now the real work begins!
She Is Still Pretty!!
I am assuming just by the look of the gears that this transmission definitely had a bearing rumble causing all of this!(The entire removal and teardown of the transmission! Now that might sound like a hectic thing but it really isn't a bearing will never just seize up, not if it gets oil! It might be damaged but if it has oil it'll run for a long time! Not forever but a long time!
So you should know if a bearing is completely gone it was likely driven without oil and that can be a troublesome thing! Oh it can rip apart more than just your transmission!
Let's get these shafts pulled out!
Knowing Without Knowing!
That is the key my peeps! That is the key to success! Knowing what you don't know but you know it! Yeahp tricky as it may be! Or it might just be experience!
I even asked bossman and he said he was unsure but I had this gut feeling that there was going to be a circlip holding the gear to the left onto the shaft! So this meant I had to remove it one by one and that was it! Not all together as it might lead to a catastrophic failure of things!
Hectic right! I've seen some guy pounding on a press with something that had a cir-clip in! It's not pretty when the parts starts flying around!
Yeahp there it is! Lying hidden under the roller bearing! Now that is something! Glad I foresaw that one otherwise it might have been a little bummer in my day!
Until the next teardown peeps! Have a blessed one!
