Rhene brevipes: A Little Jumper from Sumatra

Here are some macro shots taken with a mobile phone camera. What's that? It's a tiny jumping spider, a female Rhene brevipes (Thorell, 1891), one of the jumping spiders of the genus Rhene found in Sumatra.

I noticed little Rhene carrying something. You can probably guess what it was: a prey. Yes, that's right!

That afternoon, the garden we entered was overgrown with weeds, and the flowers were in full bloom. Pollinators, ranging from large to small, came to work. This little one sniffed out the opportunity well. She kidnapped one of them, and the prey was no bigger—probably a small wasp.

Of all the jumping spiders I often encounter, little Rhene is one of the least hyperactive. I was quite relaxed taking pictures.
