Orthosia cerasi (Fabricius, 1775)

Die Rundflügel-Kätzcheneule ist ein Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Eulenfalter (Noctuidae). Dieser Falter fliegt von Ende Februar bis in den Sommer in einer Generation. Sein bevorzugter Lebensraum bilden Waldränder und Wohngebiete mit gebüschreichen Strukturen. Mit dem Einsetzen der Dunkelheit findet man den Falter an verschiedenen Weiden, an denen er Nektar saugt.
The common quaker is a moth of the family Noctuidae. This moth flies in one generation from the end of February until summer. Its preferred habitat is forest edges and residential areas with shrubby structures. With the onset of darkness, the moth can be found on various willows sucking nectar.

Das Weibchen legt seine Eier an Pappeln und Weiden. Aber auch andere Laubbäume werden als Nahrungsquelle von Raupen besiedelt. Die Eier werden in kleinen Gruppen, dem sogenannten Eispiegel an die Unterseite der Blätter geheftet. Nach wenigen Tagen schlüpft die Raupe und frisst Löcher in die Blätter, wobei die Blattrippe immer unversehrt bleibt.
The female lays her eggs on poplars and willows. However, other deciduous trees are also colonized by caterpillars as a food source. The eggs are attached to the underside of the leaves in small groups, the so-called egg mirror. After a few days, the caterpillar hatches and eats holes in the leaves, always leaving the leaf vein intact.

Die erwachsene Raupe gräbt eine Höhle in die Erde, in der sie verpuppt. Eine glänzende wachsartige Schicht umgibt die Puppenhülle. So überwintert die Puppe bestens geschützt vor Feuchtigkeit, bis im darauf folgenden Frühling der Falter schlüpft.
The adult caterpillar digs a burrow in the soil where it pupates. A shiny waxy layer surrounds the pupal case. Thus, the pupa hibernates well protected from moisture until the moth hatches the following spring.

Der Schmetterling fliegt gerne künstliche Lichtquellen an. Ich hoffe, dass ich ihn auch in diesem Jahr wieder zahlreich an meiner Beobachtungslampe dokumentieren kann.
The moth likes to fly to artificial light sources. I hope that I can document him again this year in large numbers at my observation lamp.

Der Falter ist in Mitteleuropa noch sehr zahlreich zu beobachten und gilt in seinem Bestand derzeit als nicht gefährdet.
The moth can still be observed in great numbers in Central Europe and its population is currently not considered endangered.
