Truck body repair

in Hive Motors2 years ago

Last week I decided to take a little break from gardening and make some car repairs. First of all to fix my truck.

The sides of the body have been rusted for a long time. I bought it already with rust. And now, a year later , rust did its business. The son accidentally poked the side with his finger and a hole formed in it. Well, further more

I had to urgently do repairs.

Armed with epoxy resin, a drill, a grinder, metal brushes and paint, I got to work.

First, I removed the wheel arch expander, half of the fasteners of which simply rotted away. Then I cut it out with a grinder the parts of the metal affected by rust, the remains were treated with a rust converter and the first layer of fiberglass impregnated with epoxy resin was glued.

When the epoxy dried, I glued two more layers of fiberglass. After processing the resulting patch with sandpaper.

Ideally, after that, it was necessary to apply a layer of putty to form a flat surface, but I didn't have it, so I just painted the patch with fence paint. I have a car for work and beauty is not particularly important. As a result, it turned out like this.

There is no hole. I think it will last another couple of years. I also had to replace the battery, since the old one did not hold a charge and change the brake pads.

A few more little things need to be repaired before winter, I think I will have time.

A job well done

Welp, there are a Few steps missing, but It was a nice fix, maybe i would have loved a more in-depth step by step, but it is what it is, big hug, and hopefully it will last a couple of years :)
