Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!
Nothing New!
Well at-least we got a surplus of those transmissions that I fancy so much! Really it ain't even sarcasm! I adore them! I really do!
They are so much fun to work on! Easy simple and fast!
What more can you ask for than a whole bunch of them?
Laughs! Notice how the one technician put a piece of metal infront of the transmission so that the well bolted down clutch doesn't fall out!
Hectic!
What I Like!
See the reason I like tearing down these so much is that I can learn about problems before they even happen to my own transmission! That is a bonus, believe it or not! But the knowledge gained from these are going to be thoroughly exercised on mine when it does break some day!
It wont though,, not internally... these are hectic strong transmissions!
Although this one is a little dirty inside! The lack of oil changes can do that!
The Usual.
That is why we tear these down because we never know if they are internally broken. The dealers never even send us the faults code and stuff when they send the transmissions... it's hectic because without those we don't know where the problem may be!
It's a gambler's situation but one that we can sort out in a jiffy!
This casing will have to be sent away for welding!
The Other Is The Problem.
Now the problem here is that there are no actual breaks.... there is no metal shavings lying about in the casings... no visual breaks on the gears and nor the synchro's.
So it must be that this must have some electrical issue or perhaps the clutch?
Heck I've not even thought about inspecting the clutch yet, I should get to doing that! Although it would be sad if Ford send a transmission for us to fit a clutch in it!
It Doesn't Add Up.
Seriously it doesn't!
Just take a long hard look at the condition of that casing inside... it's hella dirty and not just oil though!
Notice the dark spot? Well that is where the magnet sticks to and there is a lot of metal shavings there, but not enough to call for a actual break!
There was one more thing though!
I Wonder.
This might be debunked as something that is nothing.... but I don't think so.
Why would there be metal pieces inside if nothing broke? Why? How? Where?
Something broke and I think we might have to dig a little deeper than we thought we needed to! Hah the first of its kind!
It's almost always either the electronics of the transmission or the clutch or the casing that breaks on the inside.. never this though!
