Dragonball Z must have been there, I kinda wonder what time I started watching Naruto. But since it aired in my 20s, it's definitively later.
Goku is an archetype of good, but he's also goofy for that reason. Naruto is a way better role model actually and his personal story is beyond epic. The generation of anime watchers directly after mine did get a worthy heir to the throne.
