Day 19! Emotions and feelings invites you to talk about the international day of fight against breast cancer.
Sharing awareness, personal experiences, and support.
This topic .... is very opportune
Ladies ... 10 minutes could save your life .... Make time for breast screening.
Photos taken 22nd October 2024
Yesterday Mrs T was summoned to get a mammogram. She was as hellish nervous asI have seen her in a long time, as she had never had it before and was told horror stories by people, mainly older women including her fluffing mother...
So I made sure I took her there.
There is a big push here in Scotland with the Scottish Breast Screening Programme.
Unfortunately we both know people who have lost their fight with breast cancer.
All cancers are bastards and any chance to prevent it should be grabbed.
So when they said she was eligible she said yes and an appointment was made.
That appointment was yesterday.
Believe it or not, the appointment was in a supermarket car park and not a hospital!
There are mobile breast screening units that get parked up in the carpark of a supermarket for a few weeks at a time, then moves on to another car park.
This is a photo of page 12 of the booklet Mrs T was given and it is something all Women AND men should read...
Did you know men can get breast cancer too? It is rare but it happens.
However men should still know what to look for and be there to assist and help their partner...
Well any self respecting fluffing man should that is!
Be Breast Aware
This is such an important topic that I am putting down what it is recommened in Scotland...
Being breast aware is about checking your own body regularly, so that you can spot any changes to your breasts early and tell your doctor.
You can do this in the shower, bath, when you use body lotion or when you get dressed.
Changes in your breasts (including the area up to your armpit) may well be harmless, but you should get them checked straight away.
8 things you need to look out for:
a lump, area of thickened tissue or bumps
a change in size or shape of one or both breasts
a lump or swelling in either armpit
skin that appears like orange peel
crusting on or around your nipple
a leaking nipple which may or may not be streaked with blood
dimples or skin that's become drawn in
a nipple that's become turned in.
Keep breast aware as you can develop breast cancer at any time, including between breast screening appointments
All the staff were female an very friendly.
Her appointment was 9.55 but we were there 20 minutes early and they took her straight away.
It was as painless as could be. The woman operator of the space age machine was friendly and only four boob squishes were involved!
The wait for results takes around five weeks so fingers crossed it is all good news....
I don't know what you have been told, but this was not like going for a smear or anything. It was a pleasant experience and of you are offered it, then I have been told to tell you that you should jump at it!
Remember that 10 minutes could save your life....
Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoyed my response to the prompt.
