In India we had many such Cinemas and eventually all of them shut down and now there are either shopping malls or multiplexes come up. Still there are couple of them in Mumbai city which are still operating. They are not this dirty but the look is almost similar.
As a kid with my father I used to go to these cinema halls and they looked so grand in those days :-)
The whole definition of Cinema watching has changed. I am such a big fan of watching movies that I still prefer going to a cinema hall then watching it at home :-)

It's not surprising. India was part of the Commonwealth once, and considering the time these were built, it would fall into that age.
