TAKE A TOUR TO CHINA TOWN @ SINGAPORE - LUNAR NEW YEAR 2021 | 牛车水新春风光

Hello everybody!
This year we had experienced an unusual Lunar New Year. In the blink of an eye, today is the fifteenth year, the Lantern Festival. Last two weeks, on New Year’s Eve, my family and I went shopping in Chinatown to buy New Year goods. What is different from previous years that everyone wears mask. Every store has to scan the QR code, ‘Trace Together’ or write down the name and ID to enter the store. The Lunar New Year under the pandemic is definitely not as convenient, relaxed and comfortable as before.

Fortunately, I am working in Singapore where the pandemic has been under control, and achieve 0 daily new cases. The government here is not slack at all. It is cautiously opening up the economy and activities, greatly reducing group activities, to stop the spread of the virus. Today I will take you on a tour of Chinese New Year decoration in Singapore’s Chinatown this year to see how the New Year is celebrated here.

As soon as I arrived in Chinatown, I saw a large Golden Ox lighting. Because this year is Ox Year in Chinese Calender. We can see many Ox decoration surrounding us. The wind wheel was next to the Golden Ox, it seemed to be turning the bad into good fortune. Hopefully every bad thing in 2020 will be turned away and pandemic will end in 2021 and welcoming brand new 2021 New Year.

Continue walking, I came to a beautiful and solemn temple on South Bridge Road, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. Red lanterns were hanging along the walkways both sides of Temple which is also a good spot for photographers to capture the temple scenery.

Because of the pandemic, public places must be comply with safety measures, so the temple only open one gate to facilitate the public to enter and use trackers and keep social distancing. Facing South Bridge Road, there are lights on both sides of the temple to welcome Lunar New Year.

From Buddha Tooth Relic Temple walked to Pagoda Street, there are many stalls on both sides of the road are closed. Not as good as the previous crowds and stalls on the Chinatown Street selling all kinds of food and goods. Now it is indeed deserted a lot and the business is really losing to the pandemic.

Getting closer to the subway station on Pagoda Street, people began to see crowds. As Singapore enters the 3rd stage, the number of dine-in restaurants has also increased to maximum 8 people.

Walked to Pagoda Street near to the MRT station, there are more and more people. There are also several security guards to maintain social distancing from the public.

This shop has strong Chinese New Year’s feel, and the red decoration has attracted many customers. But the owner must limit the number of people in the store, so business is not easy to do.
