The hive blockchain is a diverse block chain as I mentioned in chapter 1 of this book.

However, what you do on your first couple of days might determine how long you survive on the blockchain.

Most people get on hive through the people who invited them. Others sometimes get on hive based on what they read on the internet.

Your first day on hive is important because if you do not utilize the opportunity, you might end up giving up so early.

So what are the things you must do on your first day on the hive blockchain?

It is worthy to note that people come to the hive blockchain for different reasons.
Most people come for blogging, however, a fraction of users come for gaming. A minor fraction are here for investing.

If you are on the blockchain for the gaming aspect, you just need to have some hive staked in a process called powering up to participate in the games you are interested in. The hivepower mainly helps with transactions.

However, if you are interested in blogging there are a few things you must do on your first day on hive.

You must understand something quick.
Your first day on hive is very important.
That's the day you do all the introductions. It's also the day you pitch yourself and give reasons why people should follow you.

It is more like a first date. Think about what you do on a first date. That's probably what you should do on your first day on the hive blockchain.

There are a few things you must do on your first day on hive and they include:

1. Write an introductory post.

An introductory post is a post that helps people know who you are.

Take it as you went on a date and you need to be identified and you want to win the heart of the person reading.

The write up should be as quality as it can be as this is the first impression a lot of people will have about you.

Remember, first impression matters the most.

You might be asking why should I write an introductory post?
The reason is simple.
When you join the hive blockchain you are limited based on the fact that you don't have a stake in the blockchain.

So when you join, you are only allowed to write one post and make 3 comments.

After which your resource credit finishes and you have to wait for a long time for it to recharge for you to write another 3 comments.

Most of the time, most people get huge upvotes on their introduction if they do it well and put work into writing it.

It's all about quality here on the hive blockchain.
If it's not quality, you aren't receiving shit

Short story...

When I got on hive steem my introductory post landed my a hundred dollar upvote from @blocktrades back in 2017
The reward was enough for me to wait so I could comment more and engage more.

At the time, it gave me enough hive power and so I was able to continue on the platform.

This is one of the advantages of writing an introductory post.

An introductory post helps to tell people that you are around.
In the next chapter, I will be writing on how to make an introductory post.

In essence, your first activity on the hive blockchain should be your introductory post.

2. Set up your profile.

InShot_20220215_201017364.jpg

A lot of people come into the blockchain and just leave their profiles blank.
This is one mistake most newbies make.

Some people don't have the strength to read through your well-written post.

So a lot of people just go to your profile to see a general summary of you.

This is why it is important to have your profile updated on the first day.

Also, there is a sense of originality that comes from an updated profile.

Trust me, when people feel originality when skimming through your account, they tend to get interested in you.

3. Download applications that are connected to the hive blockchain.

Different applications are connected to the hive blockchain.

Some of them run on the hive blockchain while some are applications that are independent of the hive blockchain.

These applications include;

  • Discord: Discord is a chatting app like telegram and WhatsApp. However, there are a few differences that make it unique.
Although a lot of people complain about the complexity of discord I can tell that if you sit down with it for two hours, you will comfortably navigate the app so well.
The importance of discord cannot be overemphasized.
The first and most important reason is, every community on hive has a discord page and most of the familiarisation happens on discord.
This makes it important for every new person to have discord.
Also, some bots that help with easy access to the blockchain are sometimes built on discord too.
  • Twitter.
Twitter is a popular app that is known worldwide. However, the hive community happens to use Twitter nowadays to get global attention.
The popular #hivechat hosted by @traciyork and a few other well-meaning hivers is usually done on Twitter.
The #posh initiative uses Twitter also.
So most posts get attention when they are posted on Twitter as this helps give the hive blockchain get some attention.
Having a Twitter account is a plus.

  • Grammarly
Most people don't have a writing background and this makes it a little difficult at the start
However, the only way to get better at something is to do it consistently.

Grammatical errors can be disturbing to readers and a lot of times they go unnoticed by the author due to various reasons.

Grammarly helps with these problems. Although having Grammarly does not remove the fact that you still have to proofread your work but it certainly does help.

Grammarly is available for download on the play store on Android and Apple and even on desktop.

  • Hive keychain
The hive keychain is an extension that helps with wallet transactions.
Having this application on your pc makes transactions on the blockchain a lot easier

You store your keys there and never have to look for those long passwords.
.you can also have hive keychain on mobile if you use the Kiwi browser.

4. Choose a frontend

One of the biggest problems newbies have is choosing what frontend to use when they start.

You hear things like what is peakd? What is hive.blog? What is leofinance? What is ecency?

These are front ends/applications through which you can access the hive blockchain.

Most people choose one or more of them based on their preferences.

For example, when I started, I started with hive.blog mainly because it was like the conventional steemit website. It was also easy to use.

After a while, I discovered peakd had more features than hive.blog in my opinion and so I quickly migrated to peakd.
Ecency is a mobile app created by @good-karma.
I have met people who don't like browser apps and prefer mobile apps. @ecency is the app for you if you are into blogging.
An added benefit is the incentive for using the app to do certain activities

5. Source for delegations

For you to thrive on the hive blockchain, you need to source for hive power at the start. Hence, the delegated proof of stake system.

Most new people don't have information about the blockchain and so a lot of them don't buy hive at the start.

So as a new user, you should find ways to source for delegations.

If you meet a few people on discord and tell them you need some delegation for your first week you will most likely be granted that delegation.

If you go on to be serious, they might leave it till you can stand for yourself.

Gift giver helps with delegations for newbies.

I feel it shouldn't take more than a month for one to gather at least 50 hive power.

Also powering up all your hive at the beginning of your journey has a way of making you hit the hive power target faster.

So that's it for things you should do on your first day on hive.

You've basically touched on almost all what one should do on first day on Hive. What I appreciate and would emphasize a newbie should do is reply to every comment that is left of one's introductory post and going forward. I find replying to comments polite and very sweet which invariably build relationships.

And just be yourself above, no one is best here, we are all trying to get better by the day. Hive naturally pushes you to get better.

Thank you for the addition. I will add it

You are welcome bro

Absolutely!!! Hive makes you get better , for example, I am an artist and hive as prompted me to draw everyday since I started blogging and that as made me improve a lot !!! Valid points !!

One article with a lot of contents.
You really touched all corners of what a newbie should do on the first day.
Thanks

This is good info for new people.

I think there is a tag people should use on their intro post. It used to be #introduceyourself and I think it still is. Hivers who are looking to find people who are new to Hive go to this tag to find them.

I think it's a good idea to have your first post be an intro post. But if you're not ready for that on day one, you can read and comment others' posts and follow people you like.

Thanks for making this resource for our new members!

Thank you for the addition.. I really appreciate your input.

I think this is a well-detailed post. There is little I can add here well except that newbies should learn markdown. It will help in the overall presentation of their post

I totally agree o
