SURVIVING NIGERIA

in Speak Peace2 years ago

This article is just based on random thoughts and how I see things generally.

Most people(Citizens) consider Nigeria a failed country. Quite a number of people have one bad thing or the other to say about this country. Some even think nothing good can come out of it and that it will never be good.
Some others are quite hopeful though. I guess they are the few that came up with the phrase ‘naija go better”, (meaning, Nigeria will be good).

Well, there are a number of reasons people don’t think good of this country. The high rate of corruption in every nook and cranny of the nation has led to a lot of backward development. Theres high rate of insecurity, increased cost of living, slow rate of development, little or no regard for civil servants and retirees, poor education and medical facilties, the list goes on and on.

Different people have found solace in holding either a group of people or an individual responsible for the state of the country. Some say it’s the rich, some others blame the politicians. Quite a number of persons believe it's solely the fault of the president. Even though the way I see it, whoever is the president at any point in time in this country is bound to take the blame no matter how upright he may be.

A lot of people these days only dream of travelling out of the country and never coming back. To them, that’s success. Some others however still believe they can still live as happily and as comfortably as they want in this country with the right resources.

Now, one may ask, with all these that seem to be eating the country up, how are people surviving?

Well, I really don’t have a laid down answer for that. However, I would simply just say “adaptation” or “evolvement’?

The way I see it, people have learnt to adapt to whichever turn the country takes. We've been doing that for several years now. It just seems like we're pretty good at adapting to whatever situation presents itself. A lot of people, especially the young adults are learning to look for sources of income outside their immediate environment. Many go digital and quite a number of people sort to earn in foreign currencies so as not to be too affected by Nigeria's devalued naira.

People are learning creative ways to create jobs for themselves without depending on the government. Quite a number of that is seen on the social media today.

How I survive Nigeria?
I simply just trust God and mind my business!

First of all, I don’t see the politicians alone as corrupt as I've experienced some wicked level of corruption even among the poor masses.

I have come to the realization that talking alone, doesn’t ’t really solve anything so I don’t bother. By minding my business, I just find creative ways to overcome whatever challenge shows up at my front door. I look for solution without first trying to figure out which of the politicians must have caused the problem because what's the use?

I'm among those who have gone digital. In fact, I did, a very long time ago.

The world is growing and frankly, if one doesn't grow with it, one will be left behind for sure and trust me, playing catch up won't be any fun.

I still mind my business of course because there are a lot of things to think about these days to allow oneself get distracted over political failures that one can barely do anything about.

I hope for the best of course and I believe there are a lot of good in this country despite it all. This is just a phase and as always, this too shall pass.
