Hive Open Mic, Week 50: Sonatina in C major by Friedrich Kuhlau, op. 20 nr 1

in Hive Open Mic3 years ago (edited)

The theme of this week's Open Mic is of course ideally suited for organ music. The organ is mostly associated with church music and the main feasts of christianity are of course the birth of Jesus (Christmas) and the death and resurrection of Jesus (Easter). The cycle of live and death, the changing of the seasons and the rebirth of life in spring. The organ literature is filled with music that celebrates life and expreses the theme of rebirth over and over again.

I only have to pick one of the many many compositions available.

Instead, I play again something on the piano. And as last week, what I play is not related to the theme of this week at all. It is the playing itself, that is loosely tied into the theme. Last week was my first piece of piano playing in many many years. And I actually quite enjoyed it even though the piano and me have become terribly rusty. It'll take us quite a lot of practising to get us both back into shape. Nevertheless, my fingers still remember some of the pieces I played for my piano lessons 40 years ago. I picked one of them, a Sonata by Johann Friedrich Kuhlau.

You can see this performance as my rebirth as a pianist. Forgive me the obvious errors, I hope the pleasure in playing this again after so many years comes across.

Wonderful!

you mentioned in the text Johann Kuhnau but in the video it says Friedrich Kuhlau. Just curious as to which one you are playing :)

Oh oops, I always mix those two up, Johann Kuhnau en Friedrich Kuhlau. It really is Kuhlau in this case.

That's ok. Well, in any case your playing is very cool-au! :)

Really beautiful music you are playing.

Thanks, glad you like it.

Welcome

Gracias por participar y disfrutar de Hive Open Mic

I really enjoy hearing (and seeing) you play. Your piano sounds beautiful to me. I see what you mean about the organ being an appropriate instrument for a theme such as this one: "Be Reborn," and yet your piano resonates for me in this moment. Thank you.

The piano is more popular than the organ and does appeal more to people. Hive Open Mic is a great stimulus to play the piano again more often.

Bravo! The change to minor tonality and return to major is great! I liked it.

Yes, that's a nice moment. I also like the return to the main theme after that. Makes me think of Beethoven's Waldstein sonata. In that point I could slip right from Kuhlau to Beethoven.

Excelente! Felicitaciones

Gracias!!

Oh, the minor part with triplets is my favourite :)

Partitura is reborn as a pianist !! I see your happiness at the end and a lot of concentration while playing (the same was with me this week, I was so focused that I see myself too serius 😅 )

Yes, I like that moment too, a little bit of drama in an otherwise sunny composition.

Exactly ☺️

Grandioso trabajo felicidades...
