By Your Side ..

This is an original poem that I jotted down the other day. It feels like it still needs some work, but I thought I would share it anyway. It has been some time since I last shared some of my poetry. It's not something I truly feel comfortable doing, because it does open the door to personal feelings and thoughts that I wouldn't normally share with others.

We went to a funeral on Saturday. A dear friend of ours lost her father so very abruptly and without much warning. She expected him to be around for many more years. They made plans and shared beautiful times together.. but no more. It was heart wrenching, and I couldn't help but be moved in a way that I felt like creating a poem.

This poem is not about the passing of our friends loved one, but rather life and how grateful I am to have found my life partner so many years ago. My life has been nothing but full because of her and her inner and outer beauty. Like my friends father was to her, my wife is my rock and my place of peace. I couldn't ask for more.

I Love Her With All My Heart!

I wrote her this poem and titled it "By Your Side". I truly hope you enjoy it.

By Your Side

In the twilight of memories, we were young once,
Bound by dreams, hearts intertwined, so strong,
Amidst the chill of life's uncertain dance,
Excitement pulsed, as we journeyed along.

Leaving footprints on the sands of time,
Alone but never truly on our own,
Thinking of futures in prose and rhyme,
Tonight, we reap the seeds we have sown.

In the game of life, we hold the last card,
Fate's hand dealt with secrets yet untied,
Through highs and lows, our souls are scarred,
But together we stand, side by side.

As stars adorn the canvas of the night,
Our laughter echoes, memories collide,
Through the years, we've learned to love and fight,
In your presence, I find solace, my guide.

Though days may pass and seasons may part,
The bond we share shall forever abide,
For in your warmth, I've found my heart,
By your side, love's eternal, love's pure and wide.
