Where Have You Gone?

So Yeah… It’s Been a While

So yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve been Hiving around here. As I scroll through some of my favorite content creator blogs, I realize just how much I’ve missed it. I truly do. Hive has always been a creative outlet for me .. A place to share, connect, and get inspired .. But lately, life has had other plans.

Work has been keeping me extra busy .. With a lot of changes rolling through, and by the time I find a moment to breathe, the day is already gone. On the flip side, family life has been full and wonderful, and we’ve been making the most of the time we do have together. Sometimes the simple days at home or our little weekend outings end up being the best kind of therapy.

Mr. Huxley

IMG_9491.jpeg

Huxley is doing just fine! He’s got his routines down to a science, and honestly, he might be the most reliable timekeeper in the house. Like clockwork, he lets us know when it’s time to get up, eat, play, take his nightly stroll around the neighborhood, and finally, when it’s time to call it a day.

He’s even developed this funny little quirk .. He’s somehow associated the nightly news theme song with dinner time. The moment he hears those first few notes, he comes scratching at us like, “Hey, it’s dinner o’clock!” I swear, he knows our schedule better than we do. Funny what dogs pick up on.

Somehow, while I was away from Hive, Hux turned a year old! We celebrated with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a single candle. He waited patiently (barely) while we sang to him, and then demolished that scoop like a champ. He’s stopped growing now, holding steady at a husky 8 pounds — every one of them loved. He’s such a special part of our lives and hearts, I honestly can’t imagine the house without him.

“He may be small, but he fills the whole house with love.”

Orchid Update

IMG_9498.jpeg

My orchids are looking good .. Maybe even better than good. The Vandas are in bloom again, bursting with color and clearly happy with whatever I’ve been doing. So, I’m not about to change a thing until they tell me otherwise!

I do, however, need to repot most of the Phalaenopsis. Their roots are sprawling out of the pots and all over the place. Normally I’d let them be (they have a mind of their own, after all), but a few are starting to look a little wilted and dry. Probably time to give them some fresh bark and a little TLC.

Not this weekend though .. A nasty Nor’easter is headed our way. I already battened down the hatches: umbrellas down, outdoor furniture secured, everything tucked in.

Silver and Gold

And speaking of things tucked away .. How about those silver spot prices lately? Are you buying? Selling? Or just sitting tight and seeing what happens? Yeah, same here. I’m not exactly loading the boat at these prices, but I’m definitely not selling either. I picked up a couple of small silver coins a few months back, and looking at today’s prices, that might’ve been a nice little discount.

And gold! Wow. New all-time highs and holding above $4,000 USD. Wild times in the metals world.

What's hiding in there at the top of the canister? Huxley wants it I think.. Or could just be the smell of stale soda and beer hehehe

IMG_9499.jpeg

Now, if only the price of pull tabs from soda cans would skyrocket .. I’d really be sitting pretty. Lord knows I’ve got enough of those lying around here to fund a retirement plan. 😄

Can you believe Christmas is only 75 days away?

Shhhhhhhhh....

I’m not sure how that happened. Time feels like it’s both crawling and sprinting at once.

I hope all of you are doing well

Staying healthy, staying hopeful, and finding the small joys wherever you can. I’ve missed being here and reading all your posts, and I look forward to catching up and sharing a bit more again soon.

Until next time… stay warm, stay inspired, and hug your pups (or your orchids) for me.

I'm glad you, your beautiful wife, and Huxly are doing good, @bdmillergallery!
The soda and beer pull tabs are made of aluminum just like the rest of the can. It's better to recycle the entire can to be more effecient. !LOL. You can donate them to Ronald McDonald House of Charities; I read once that they accept them.
Aluminum scrap is worth about $1.00 per pound, but it takes roughly 1,200 tabs to equal one pound. Source: https://summerstirs.com/are-pull-tabs-worth-anything/https://summerstirs.com/are-pull-tabs-worth-anything

Glad to see you back. Yeah, I get it being busy. I’ve had tons of curveballs thrown my way lately. I find posting as an outlet to clear my mind of life. I do my posts right before I shut everything off. Glad you and the family are doing well. Yeah metals are on fire.

I was just thinking of you! While putting three ice cubes on the orchid that has bloomed nearly non stop for three years now. I sat down here after doing that, and there was your post! That passes for very big excitement in my world.

Huxley's coloring is gorgeous. I'm so happy for you all that you have each other, and that all these good things are happening for you.

I'm glad to hear you, Huxley and the fam are doing well. I saw you started a power down and I was hoping you weren't leaving for good. That's funny about the nightly news theme. I'm at the point where I need to buy some more silver and I am not loving these prices!

I love how you touched on the need to return to writing and sharing, not just for the sake of existence, but because writing itself brings a sense of calm and connection. There's a rare honesty here, not contrived, just the genuine expression of someone who misses the creative process and its community.

WoW! Am I glad to see this update. Can't believe Huxley is a year old. Glad to see the orchids, as I live vicariously through your orchid posts. And I'm wondering why in the world you save can soda can tabs....

Christmas 75 days away?? I'm still struggling to finish gardens. Have finally finish harvesting. Next big jobs: planting garlic and cleaning out the Big garden. That will be it for this Year though there's lots more needs done.

Glad to see you back, hope for more Huxley and orchid updates...

Good to see you back after a break, Huxley a year already give him a hug and late wishes!

Orchids this year have been something to enjoy, much like you I have had flowers on both this season. Great need to find another tree to transplant across to or share out to orchid lovers in our area, they are thriving outdoors in our climate.

It’s so great to see you back!😀 Your orchids blooming again is such a delight. Huxley is such a little character. Dogs really do have the funniest, smartest little quirks!🤗
