Tonight we havea a dinner with a local veterans group I belong to. It is suppsoed to be at a sports themed restaurant. So most likely it will be burger and fries for me, along with a cold beer or two.
What I am looking forward to most is the converstation. I haven't been away from the house much lately. It will be good to get out, socialize and converse with others, especially other vets.
Even though normally I feel like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs when I go to a crowded restaurant, when I am with those guys, I feel much more comfortable for some reason. It is an interesitng experience.
Tomorrow will be even better as I have plans to eat lunch with my youngest son. We haven't spent much time together since he moved out. It will be nice to sit down, catch up with him and what has been happening with his work and school. We are not sure where we are going yet, it will be a last minute choice. But it will defintely be some place that is not crowded.
After lunch we plan to hit what is like an indoor flea market. They usually have some coins for sale there, and I plan to come away with some new specimens for the collection, hopefully.
While there, I would also like to do some shopping for a nice gift for the wife. She is such an awesome support for me. Since I can't drive anymore, she is stuck driving me to appointments, running errands to pick things up for me, steadying me on my wobbly days, and many other care giver things I can't even think of at the moment. I would just like to show her some appreciation that is not on a holiday or birthday.
After the flea market, we may hit a Books-A-Million that is close by. Not sure what I will be looking for. I already have many unread bookos on the bookshelf in my office, but I do like looking. I also like to grab a coffee from the coffee shop in the bookstore.
Anyway, I look forward to tonight and tomorrow. The weekend is yet to be planned, so may just let it be and play it by ear. If the weather is nice, I may try to work on the garage some. The wife mentioned it yesterday, so I may have no choice but to do it this weekend.
Well, that is all I have for this morning. Maybe tomorrow I will share the dinner experience I had with the old vets and any insights that brings.
Thanks for reading,
Joe

Sounds like a full and enjoyable day. How nice that you appreciate your wife.
I wish. I've read all of mine multiple times. I need to get out more.
I need to read faster. My problme is I will read a couple pages, get restless and move on to something else. It takes me forever to read a book these days.
Sounds like you've got a good time that by this point has already completed. Hope you got to enjoy it all man!
One of the things that I find really awesome is one of the local coffee shops, on Saturday mornings when I'm headed into work there's a bunch of them gathered in the shop to drink a coffee or two, eat a donut and just hang out to talk. Some days there are easily 10 or 12 of them and one of these days I'm just going to sit down with them and just get to know them. I love those types of things because it's SO important, especially for men, to have these social engagements. We tend to get more isolated than the women do, so getting these opportunities to socialize are so good for us!
Also glad that you've got some time planned with your son! I know that I'm really looking forward to seeing my dad in a few weeks, it's been far too long since I've seen him.
Sadlly I had to canvel dinner plans. Got wobbly that afternoon. Lunch is still on for today though, so looking forward to that. Yeah, me and some guys where I used to live got together on friday monrings for coffee and breakfast. It was always a good time.

Sounds like you have a busy couple of days coming up!
Enjoy the food and the chat with your youngest son. I was chuckling to myself as I remembered you and your wife cleaning out his room and what you found 🤣
Yeah, it was supposed to be. I had to cancel for the dinner with the guys. Got wobbly yesterday afternoon and never got better until I went to bed last night. I just woke up and seem to be better now though, so hopefully lunch with the son is still in the cards. Yeah, his old room was a mess, but it's our room now 🤣
Ah well things happen. Fingers crossed you have a great lunch with the youngest!
It seems that you will have a busy days ahead, and a lot of fun is already waiting for you. I hope that you will enjoy it fully with your other vet group, and the trip with your son and your wife.
!PIZZA
Thanks. Had to cancel for dinner because I wasn't feeling right, but lunch with the son is still on.
I hope you have an awesome time. My wife and I are probably going to eat out ourselves tomorrow. I can't decide if I want a burger or fried fish. She might decide she wants something else though and we could end up getting Chinese!
You never know what the wives will choose sometimes. I just go with the flow when they are choosing where and what to eat.
That sounds like the best way to handle it!
I can relate with the feeling of wanting to socialize and especially to have a great conversation with someone or group. Too much "ME" time at home can get boring and makes us grow old or older fast. 😃 Seems like we forget to laugh or to be part of a meaningful conversation (we just end up as listeners hehe) It is so thoughtful of you to do some shopping for your wife. I hope you have a lovely time together.
Thanks. Yes, I mean the wife and I converse alot at home, but it is nice for the two of us to get out and talk to others as well.
I agree, and topics are different from the usual conversations at home. At least, there are other things to look forward to when going out.
Absolutely, I got unsteady later in the day and have been that way thorugh the weekend. So we didn't make it. Probably gonna be a little out of it for another day or two.
Oh, so you missed the gathering... Hope you feel better soon; must be the Winter blues...
It's good to get out. I have the same issue, I really don't like going out. I force myself too for things important to living, but in a lot of ways I've become more of a hermit. It's easy to get stuck in that comfortable spot, I think it's great you're making efforts to get out! Burger, fries, and beer, sounds awesome!
Yeah, sounds like me. I do like to get out on occasion though. I started feeling wobbly this afternoon, so I am hoping I can still go tonight.
How was the night out with the veterans group? I hope the food was good! And the trip to the flea market? Any luck?
Neither happened. I have been down and out for the last few days since posting this. Still a little wobbly and probably won't see me around much for a couple more days until I get my wheels steady.
