Fiber Paste Resounding Success - Day 25 - The 100 Day Project

Wednesdays I work away from home and so I need to get into the attic and create something quickly before leaving the house. I was especially pleased with how it went today - Day 25 of The 100 Day Project.

I had no particular plan when I climbed the ladder but was surprised to see, when I cast my eye around, that I had not 1, but 2, big tubs of fiber paste. Given I've got so much of the stuff this seemed like a good material to get going with.

I previously wrote about my failed Fiber Paste session back on Day 6. Actually, that was the post that got deleted so I ended up with a Cole's notes version which doesn't seem to contain much information about the fiber paste part.

So let me remedy that . . .

Fiber paste is a unique art medium that usually contains plant fibers like jute or hemp. Hence the name. It looks like handmade paper when it's dry and, like paper, is absorbant so you can use it with paint washes or ink amongst other things.

This morning I took one of my ex lifedrawing papers and a stencil and started adding fiber paste texture to some of the painted areas.

After the first go round I realised I needed to be a bit bolder and use a heftier amount. This meant I was left with quite a lot of the paste on the stencil. Not liking to waste anything, I rubbed this off on my catch-all book pages I have for such a purpose. All of them, apart from the Stanley Gibbons catalogue page already had paint and/or ink on them from cleaning brushes and other tools in the past.

I wasn't intending to get quite so much of the stuff on my hands. Looks a bit like a white henna tattoo. 😂

This close up is interesting. It looks like I have a painty stencil lying on top of some handmade paper but the fiber paste is actually on top of the painty paper.

That got me to thinking . . . I could use this technique to make some clusters for the cluster book? I can't wait to try that out.

Another fun experiment I'm going to try is dolloping out some fiber paste onto a non-stick surface, smoothing it down with a pallet knife and then peeling it off when it's dry. It's supposed to end up like thick paper. Fun, fun, fun!!!

Messy = fun !

That's a neat raised design that you made. It was also good that it helped you think of another cluster making possibility.
