Tea Bags and Washi - Day 21 - The 100 Day Project

I was on the wrapping paper again today, Day 21 of The 100 Day Project. Both @jacey.boldart and @alchemystones had mentioned that they liked the idea of making their own wrapping paper and I commented that I had mixed feelings about it.

Depending on the type of paper I make it can take hours and, given that March and April are such busy months for birthdays for me I thought it might make sense to get ahead of the game a bit. Consequently I created a couple of extra sheets today.

This first one is just upcycled book pages attached together with washi tape. I may or may not decorate it further depending on what I use it for.

It's a nice quick one to make if you don't decorate it further.

This one, which I've used to wrap my daughter's birthday present, started the same way. I used pages from an old Stanley Gibbons Stamp Catalogue and attached them to each other with a nice bee themed washi tape. This paper is particularly good for wrapping as it's nice and flexible and yet doesn't tear.

The type of paper you use is important. If it's too old it can be friable and just disisntegrates. If it's too thick, which I've found with the ex life painting paper, it won't bend around the present.

Having wrapped the present I made a tag from the cut-offs and a piece of cardboard from an upcycled coffee box.

The third piece of wrapping paper I made by tacking used teabags to a piece of Amazon packaging paper. I then stuck them down fully by soaking them with gel medium.

When I started with the tea bags I was planning on painting them in some way but I actually like how it's turned out with just the patterns from the tea. I'll probably use it as is and maybe jazz it up it with some upcycled fabric or thread ties.

Okey. Dokey. That's another day completed. Hope you're all having a fun weekend.

Grrr. Bloody hell. I've just spent over an hour trying to upload the photos correctly. Sooooo frustrating! 😱

Next - Day 22

Sort:

Do you disembowel the tea bags straightaway?

No. I wait for them to dry out. It's easier to remove the tea that way.

What do you do with the tea leaves?

Sometimes I use them mixed with gesso like a textured medium and use as is or paint over it. Other times I just throw them away. 😂

The package and tag look very nice in your homemade wrapping paper and for the teabag paper, I love it just like it is. It turned out really great.

Yeah. I really like the teabags too. Was thinking they could even be mounted on some backing paper and made into a piece of art. Only problem is I don't really need anymore wall art. 😢

Not needing more wall art is definitely a deterrent to making more, but creation must go on ! Well.... not must.... but ....gotta have some outlet.

Yeah. It's the outlet as in, art not becoming more clutter, that I'm lacking. 😂
