'The Day Kloof Went to the Dogs'

in Silver Bloggers24 days ago

Am I becoming immune to mishaps or has it finally dawned on me that when things go wrong that I know nothing about, I must not be too proud to
'Call a friend!'
And if the friend can't help:
'Call the plumber, the electrician, the mechanic, the tree feller, the appliance repairman, blah blah blah!

And of course, the empathetic insurance broker, yes, they do exist!

Before I tell you about those gremlins, I need to tell you about...

The Day Kloof went to the Dogs

A dear friend and I took Cynthia and Bongikosi for a jaunt to the Kloof & Highway SPCA, on a glorious, balmy day, with blue skies.

We wandered around their thrift stores; I found the perfect piece of original artwork for the cottage balcony, we bought some plants from the nursery, and enjoyed listening to live music while having a light lunch under the giant trees.

The 'diners' were not just of the human kind! This old man was licking out an ice cream bowl!

We saw these newspaper cuttings inside their little museum which gives a glimpse into the history of the village of Kloof.

The Three Gremlins

First out of the starting gates was the leaking waterpipe - not a 'burst waterpipe' as I told my insurance broker. I had to fork out for the repairs but was reimbursed promptly.

The second little gremlin was the kitchen tap that had to be replaced, at my cost this time, and I made sure it was a good tap. The guy at the hardware store told me it would last forever; I won't be around forever, so it won't be my problem if it packs up again!

When the third one struck today, I heaved a sigh of relief as that meant it would all be over, if 'they' were right. It was a screw in my tyre, the second one this year! The tyre was totally flat, Bongikosi took out the spare tyre which looks brand-new, but it needed air!

My friend and neighbour came to the rescue.

Looking at the state of the two front tyres, I realized someone out there was trying to tell me it was time for new ones, so a couple of thousand rands later, I had a set of brand-new tyres.

Thank heavens bookings increased again, after a very quiet period because of the municipal strikes and threats of rioting in our city. Otherwise, I would have had to settle for another mushroom plug in the tyre, and driven a little longer with tyres that were starting to look a tad too smooth to my liking.

My plans of completing a pathway on the other side of our house will have to be put on ice, however, much to my frustration!

I am making progress, and did not become a blubbering mess with the latest three mishaps; 'they' say it comes in threes, and I hope 'they' are right, whoever 'they' are!

I'd never seen this odd couple before, and they came down to the fence to say goodbye. What they are doing at the SPCA, I have no idea, but I will ask next time we visit.

Thoughts of selling the car and going the Uber route flashed through my mind again, but after a blissful day like yesterday, that thought was thrown right out of my head, for now at least!

They are them. But not these. Those are totally different.

You're handling it quite well Lizelle. Saw you in my feed, saw I haven't stopped by for a minute. Haven't stopped thinking about you.

Haven't stopped thinking about you.

SNAP!

Nice seeing you my friend @dandays (you are my friend for real, I'm not just saying it), although all these 'they them these those' are confussing me.

You see, my nights mostly are like this - fall asleep, wake up, fall asleep, repeat rinse, or is it rinse repeat? So...when I finally wake up for real, my 70-plus brain is still a'slumbering, but it's really trying its hardest to process those 'they them these those's'.
Darn it now Grammarly's rapping me over the knuckles while I'm wrapping my head around those thoughts of yours!

Thank you for paying me a visit, I get a warm fuzzy feeling when a friend like you pops in.
I'm a horrible Hive hermit at times, so forgive me if I just spy on you without saying a word, but it's often during one of those waking-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night moments.
I did respond to someone once and swore never again, my fingers went sleepwalking as my words made no sense!
I saw you're tackling that reno job with your left hand, not shabby at all, Pura is the luckiest gal in the world!
Have a great Sunday <3

You bet your you know what we're friends for real.

You're still talked about occasionally around here. The old days, sometimes, a reminisce here and there or Pura will be on the phone with Plantstoplanks and we'll get to talking about you again and farm-mom and splatts and the gang when they hang up.

Know we wish you well all.the.time.

Left handed.. Yikes. They (you know who I mean!) say you don't know what you got til it's gone. I SO regret the portraits I didn't draw that I promised I would. Canvasses and brushes and.. Can't use any of it. Been over a year. It's a harsh reality.

Originally my surgeon said by fall this year. Still got a couple months left to pray off my you know what.

The photo actually made me smile...

Darn, you have done a lot and handled the situation nicely...I hope things are going smoothly now...

Thank you @priyanarc, at least I'm starting to get used to handling what used to be hubby's 'department' and realizing friends mean it when they say I must call if I need help. I'm blessed with wonderful sincere people in my life.
Yes that monkey was an alpha male, so it's best to leave them alone. I'm sure that bowl would have been sanitized afterwards. At least they're still wild and stay away from us humans.
Some tourists think it's 'cute' to feed them, actually causing a problem as they will then approach humans, something they're very strict with there.
Have a great Sunday <3

New and old history, you past the dreaded three hopefully all settles down again, old Skit sure looks to have had a sense of humour, good on him leaving it to the dogs
!LOLZ

Giving up ones wheels is something many are reluctant to do, unless someone close to hand is able to back you up when needed.

Enjoy the cooler weather this weekend, rain washing everything clean once again!

Skit must have been quite a character, good on him for making fun of those snobs, and for leaving a legacy to the animals. Those grounds are something special, I must one day check out the trail at the small Glenholme Nature Reserve inside, apparently a hidden gem, reading the Google reviews.
I'm really enjoying the cooler weather, let's hope we don't have damaging rains, as they predicted for today, but it's just a light drizzle here.

Yes, when the second screw flattened the tyre, and I looked at the tread, I knew it was 'now or never' and time to dig deep into my pocket, big sigh, but it had to be done.
Enjoy your Sunday Joan.

Twinkle in his eye tells you his character at a glance, not surprised as many leave all to the animal kingdom welfare on their departure. Look at the memory he has left for future generations and animals to enjoy!

Light drizzle with heavier rain in between throughout the night 50mm since the rains started, good before we enter Winter dry months. Hope this cold spell breaks Summer heat now.

Cars are an evil necessity living here, very expensive to run, driving is questionable. Happy Sunday and keep well.

I've been tempted to sell the car once everything has settled but the problem would be finding an Uber for a short trip as it's not lucrative for them. Longer trips are fine. I just wondered whether it justifies me having to maintain a car as I only use it approx twice a week now. The roads are so bad and there's the safety aspect too. Don't want to be hasty though, will wait and see.

Neighbourhood has changed so much over the years one cannot rely of friends we had in earlier years, now I share my vehicle with my son, he drives me more often than not with the crazy drivers and safety issues.

Always have to think matters over before making any hasty moves, perhaps for safety on shopping days take one of your helping hands from the home with you.

I think you are doing very well. The decision to put new tires on was a good one, your safety comes first. Take care of yourself and have a nice weekend.🥰

Thanks @mamani, I had to do it sometime, so when this second screw landed in my tyre, I knew it was now or never!

Very good decision was your safety. 😘
