Tweety Bird Contest Time

Cuteness overdrive is small bird with beak full of seed, silence reigns while busy nibbling it quiet enough you will hear them crack the seeds enjoying the inside treats.

Nothing beats seeing some small little bird enjoying itself with seed popping everywhere, the first two first amazed, then startled me having never seen them previously.

Small in size dynamic in colour, they returned and still have me stuck watching them being exceptionally shy they come in pairs around midday, foraging on the ground for seeds. Please don't support illegal trade of this attractive little bird who loves warm conditions often taken to countries not suited to their lifestyle.

African Firefinch - Lagonosticta rubricata (male and female)

Weavers arrive in noisy flocks, sometimes other weavers may mix together with other weavers making it difficult to always identify, they arrive in a flurry and leave in a hurry once they have cleared all the seed out of the feeder daily.

3732-WetWeaver.JPG

Village Weaver - Ploceus cucullatus (male)

With many weaver around it may be difficult at times to identify, below female.

Invasive status given to this little bird (it is not the Cape Sparrow) introduced into our region from North Africa and Eurasia., we have never had great numbers arrive in our area, they feed alongside weavers and our local sparrows unfortunately may be problematic in damaging crops or crowd out local birds from feeding in nature.

House sparrow - Passer domesticus

Mannikin is diminutive in size males only weigh in at ten grams being one of the smallest seed eating birds in South Africa . Mating season both built a nest, during mid winter when not rearing young collectively build a larger nest to sleep over in small communities.

Bronze Mannikin - Spermestes cucullata

Now I bid you good evening after winds swept through and Zeus threw a few lightning bolts around, piece in the land and a little cooler than the heat we had early, can you see I am smiling... Time to go seed the family!

It's been a while I check out your post due to my examination, taking a those shot without those bird flying away must have been very tasking

Very small birds fly up into bush I have allowed to grow giving them an escape route to my own detriment for photography. Mostly shy one has to capture quietly from a spot of hiding. Thanks for visiting.

Ohhh. I understand now. You are welcome

how are you dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon
What a beautiful collection of tender images; How many varieties of birds are there in your town.
In my city the heat is extreme that you hardly see the birds
I appreciate that you brighten our day with these beautiful photographs
enjoy the weekend

Bottom of a continent cut off from many we have some lovely little birds in Sub-Sahara to see in the gardens. Open feeder with water pond within a few feet under a small tree with shrubs to escape into the small little ones appear more often than previously. Thanks for your visit.

!LUV

Those birds are nothing but a beauty!

Quiet little songs one has to keep an eye open for visitors at the feeder. Only weavers make noise when arriving.

Of all the birds I know, this is a sparrow. The same as at my house.

Sparrow does not have the strong facial markings of our local Cape Sparrow, brought here or found their way here from North. Thanks for kind visit.

Ooh, I like that very attractive African Firefinch ... the pink one!!!!
WOW, I'm thinking if I have seen a pink bird before... i don't remember.
I have not been seeing birds that close, certainly not African Firefinch !
Why, thank you, @joanstewart!.May I copy that photo?

Little firefinch is very pretty, yes you may use my photo, birds are a gift to the world to make the place happier.

Such adorable little birds, love their colors.
Nice post Joan😉

Small ones are cute, very skittish never enjoy being disturbed. Hiding on the verandah I am able to watch quietly and enjoy from relatively close.

The all are so adorable, all these little ones

Love variety that arrive at different times of the day, thanks for kind comment Neli.

Wonderful photos @joanstewart!! The African Firefinch is a colorful little bird and so pretty! The Village Weaver is cool looking too! It is great to see birds and such from different parts of the world! Wishing you a terrific weekend!! 💖

Seeing the firefinch and mannikins come out to feed is my highlight, both extremely small. Weavers make noisy arrival totally at home on the feeder. Have a lovely weekend as well!

Lovely, colourful birds. Thanks for sharing your #FeatheredFriends photo story, @joanstewart.

Thanks for visiting, yes it is lovely to share the small little seed eating birds, glad you appreciated them.

very beautiful birds! i have never seen them before

Tiny Sub-Saharan birds are very shy, cuteness in colours and looks.

Those Fire Finch are absolutely gorgeous! Soft, subtle colors; and so chubby! They are definitely getting their fair share of seeds!

The male Weaver is certainly bold-looking, too! Great snap of him.

I'm glad you encouraged readers not to engage in the trade of birds. While I would love to keep a parrot, the thought of locking him up to enjoy him is too much for me to contemplate.

Thanks for these terrific photos! It's great to see birds from all over the world, including South Africa.

Cheers!

Garden in busy all year round with different seed eating birds visiting, we are fortunate.

Passionately against illegal pet trade, sooner people realize an animal is never happy caged the better off everyone will be.

Thanks for visiting, expressing kind comment, enjoying our pretty little feathered friends.

When I was young we have had birds, Canary's and Zebra Finches. Everyone I knew had birds at home, I believe, but nowadays I couldn't imagine that anymore.

The Firefinch is the star in your post, of course, but I like the Cape Sparrow too. Our sparrows are only more brown and gray coloured and I like the yellow on yours.

Growing up we had Canary and Budgies it was accepted, since learning more most no longer cage any animals, except a few which leads one to question why.

Little Firefinches and Mannikins always have me peeping out to see when they arrive. Both belong to the Estrildidae family and are indigenous to southern Africa.

Yes, I don't think I know anyone who has birds or other animals in a cage or an aquarium.
But soon we will have a jumping spider. My son has bought one and I do hope he cares for it. I don't like it, but I'm looking forward to take macro photos.

We still hear of people just being stupid, an escaped Anaconda the other day.

I had a bushbaby from another region appear in my home a year ago that I called services of CROW to assist getting it rehabilitated to the right province from where it originated.

Good luck with you jumping spider, sure your wife is thrilled!

Oh yes, a few times a year we read such stories in the news. These people are stupid animal abusers because most don't keep them species-appropriate as they should!

Oh, that's a lovely looking little thing 😍

My wife is looking so much forward to it 🤣 she already hates it and has told my son he has to clean his room himself now 😂 !LOLZ
