Back at the Bird Feeder

in Feathered Friends3 years ago

Here are a few Jay pics from near the bird feeder today. I can't believe it is over 20 days since I last posted. I was down with a wicked case of the flu, and couldn't even bring myself to view and vote for about a week.

Anyway, back to 90% last couple days, and today first day grabbing the camera for the Bird Feeder antics. I "almost" caught 2 Ravens, but man were they ever spooky, just working the window latch had them jumpy and even slowly raising the window chased them off before even open an inch.

Anyway, happy with the Jay pics, and here's a couple others at the feeder.

Enjoy!

Soo pretty

Tks, they do make some great subjects!

What lovely birds! 😍

Thanks!

Some really great pictures! I love blue jays, but funny enough my grandfather hated them for whatever reason at his house in the Vermont mountains. He gave us his gun, a .22 and my first experience shooting, and told us to try and kill as many as we could lol. We were like 13 or 14 and didn’t get a single one. We did get some cans though!

They can be pretty noisy, especially in the early am hours. If he liked to sleep in, I can see where they quickly become irritating!

Yeah that’s probably it lol.

Sucks you felt terrible for a while! I hate those times, it’s hard indeed. I’m glad that you are on the mend now though! Stuff really knocks you on your ass.

Glad you are feeling better! These are really beautiful birds! We do not have similar types of birds here in South Africa. Unlucky for us. Stunning photographs. (Thinking about putting up a bird feeder here as well. I just need to build one.)

Thanks, look forward to seeing your different types from over there. Just be wary of the other critters that will be drawn to it as well!

Yes, that is something to think about! We have so many squirrels and other mammals. Thanks for the headsup!

I was just thinking about you, haven't seen the post yet. I hope you feel better, take good care of yourself. Get well soon, sending you some good vibrations from Germany.🤗

lol, I definitely had soup for a few days! All better now. We were down in your neck of the woods yesterday. Drove through Manitou and Colorado Blvd. to that little Mexican Pottery place if you remember that. My wife bought a few pots for plants, she is already chomping at the bit to plant flowers, even though a month early still.

Manitou Springs? Road names I often forget lol but Manitou Springs I remember of course. No clue about the pottery place lol. This one? That was in the GOG area lol.😄 Manitou is a neat little place and I loved the arcade there. Glad you feel better though 😊

Yes, Manitou Springs. It is a neat place. Arcade? I didn't have you pegged for an Arcade fan. I've spent just a few hours in them in my youth. Haven't found the one here yet, but sounds like a future adventure!

You can't miss the arcade, if it's still there lol. And I can't believe I dug out this pic I made there lol. If you go try to recreate it 😃😄

I've been there quite a few times, always enjoyed the chill atmosphere in Manitou. I remember an old store selling fur and stuff, and one where I had Humus lol. And the bank with the big ass safe. And and and 😂

Oh yes, I do remember this now. We did see it last time we were walking through. It is huge! It was still there, but not open when we were there. My wife not a fan, but I could lose myself in there for hours!

Save your pennys, I'm with you 😂. It is huge and so much fun lol. It was like a time travel hanging out there. Ohhh now I'm dwelling in memories again...sigh sigh sigh...miss it.

Glad to hear you're feeling much better and are back again!

The blue jays in your region are striking looking in appearance, though they have a reputation of being bullies. Thankfully it all gets sorted out without interference in the legal sysyem of the animal kingdom!

Question: were there enough seeds in the feeder to last a few weeks or did you have to refill it while you were sick? @ksteem

They are a lot different than the ones back in Missouri. This is a Stellars Jay.. Definitely still bullies. They make a strange call as well. I had one today that I swore was like a two tone hawk screeching, but when I waited and tried to locate, ended up being a Jay like this one.

And no, they didn't run out, but were getting low.. Glad the feeder has a large bin!

Terrific pictures, I love Jays. Is that a Steller's Jay?

Thanks, Yes it's a Stellers. They are very cool looking.
