Pikas flew to spend the winter in the city park

In winter, pikas appeared in our park. I didn't see them here during the summer. Their usual habitat in our country is the edge of the forest from the side of the river. But this winter I began to see them often. True, they appear mainly in one place. There are always plenty of bird feeders. Therefore, many birds that live in the park gather here.

People who come to the park always go to this place to leave food for the birds. They try to help the birds during this cold season. There is a lot of snow and it covers the ground in a thick layer. Therefore, it is very difficult for birds to find food for themselves.

Apparently in winter, birds gather in flocks to survive these cold times together. I think that birds try to stay close to people's dwellings in winter. The cities are not so cold. You can easily find yourself a shelter to hide for the night or just keep warm.

In the park, where there are many feeders, you can find food for yourself. People bring here seeds, bread, millet. Pieces of unsalted fat are hung on the branches. Finally, together it is easier for small birds to resist predators. There is always an observer in the flock who, with his loud signal, notifies everyone of a possible danger.

Pikas in the park always find trees in squares which are inhabited by various insects. These small birds are of great benefit in destroying tree pests and various insects that climb under the punishment of trees. They destroy wood and cause irreparable damage to trees growing in the park.

It's good that pikas help trees fight pests. In the spring, of course, they will again fly away to the forest. But there is also a lot of work for them to save trees. Let's hope that these little birds will be able to safely survive this cold period of time.

These birds are so well camouflaged against the trees. It's little wonder they feel so comfortable hanging out in the park.

With all of these terrific bird posts on Hive, I am inspired to install feeders this spring. I'm thinking of rigging up a small IP camera to photograph them as they visit the feeder, as well. So much to see!

Thanks for sharing this post and good luck with your birdwatching.

Cheers!
