🦉 The little stint (Calidris minuta) (or Erolia minuta)

  • Calidris kalidris or skalidris (Greek) unknown bird mentioned by Aristotle
  • minuta Latin: minutus small, minutellus very small
  • Erolia erolie (French) "curlew sandpiper".

This tiny sandpiper does not live within my city limits, but can be found during migration in mid-to-late fall. But for this you will need to overcome a huge path along a large river. I took these pictures about 30 km from the city at the end of autumn.

I saw a group of 4 of these birds near the shore. They very quickly, without stopping, wandered along the pebbles near the river and caught aquatic insects that by that time still remained.

This sandpiper bird looks very beautiful and if you have found it after a lot of effort, then your efforts should definitely go well. This bird knows that its food is hidden in the stines, so it goes near the shore and searches for its food in the stones.

Thank you
