🦉 The western yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava)

• Motacilla lat .: mōto, mōtare move continuously, -cilla tail (cilla like a tail - only in ornithology, erroneous established name)
• flava flavus (lat.) yellow, gold, golden yellow

These graceful, bright birds are very easy to see in the spring amidst the monotonous brown landscape. Every year at the beginning of May I go to the outskirts of my city, where there are meadows and a river, to visit these birds.

At this time there is no dense vegetation yet, so the birds are easy to spot. They quickly run along the ground in search of insects, and also collect building material for a future nest, because by that time pairs have already formed. I anticipate a question about the second photo. This was taken in the same meadows, but in the summer, at the height of the rape blossom season.
