🦉 The common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)

📚 Carpodacus Greek: karpos fruit, daknō to bite
📚 erythrinus erythros (Greek, lat.) red

These birds have very pronounced sexual dimorphism. Males are bright pink, beautiful. And the females are inconspicuous brown. They don’t need to be beautiful, because they hatch eggs in the nest and need to be as inconspicuous as possible.

The brightness of color in males is related to their age. The older the male, the richer this pink color. In the spring they sing a noticeable mating song, and with the advent of summer they fall silent.
