Here are some sightings of the week for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100
My neighbor's condo building has a strange hole in the concrete that sparrows have turned into a nest. I suspect this might have been carved out by a downy woodpecker but now the sparrows have moved in.
I saw at least three sparrows inside. They sure picked a good house as the angle prevents rain from coming in and its tough for predators to get to them 5 stories up.
It was fun watching the parents fly back and forth feeding these guys.
It takes some skilled flying to be able to land on the downward angle of the building then feed the babies. I'll be keeping an eye out just in case any of the babies happen to fall out too early.
I guess their little talons can easily grip the rough texture of the concrete.
I think this was the mother lower down on a fence looking for food.
Meanwhile by the lake this robin decided to turn around right at the exact moment I clicked the shot. It's bright red color looked good enough to still process the photo.
Here's a standard mourning dove. These guys are quite common around here. I used to hunt these guys and they taste quite a bit like quail.
The orioles are still around but I think by now all their babies have left the nest.
The red-winged blackbirds are starting their second or possibly even third batches of babies. This female has a nest nearby tucked in the reeds by the lake.
GET OFF MY LAWN HUMAN!!!! The red-winged blackbird males are as territorial as ever. Hopefully I can get a shot of some of their babies sometime this year...
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
Thanks again @ackhoo :-)
Those are some great shots! Those blackbirds have got some attitude apparently!
Yeah one hit me in the head the other day. They will stealth attack you from behind and peck your head.
Mean little buggers!
One of these day's I'll catch one mid-air and then I'll knock their ego down to size by giving them noogies.

Love that first shot with two babies wide open mouth 😁 Sparrows are pros at this kind of thing. We had a store with stucco on the outside and a sparrow would hang on the wall every morning. And sing its heart out 🙂 it was really nice greeting. Of course that wall was straight up and down so it was probably a pice of cake compared to the parents feeding their babies haha
I wonder which other bird pecked the hole for them. My guess is probably a red bellied woodpecker or a downy. Our condo association doesn't allow bird feeders on the balconies. I suspect if we did there would be swarms of sparrows pooping up the side of the building lol.
The red-winged blackbird male really is a stunning bird and first time seeing it!
Good luck in the contest.
They make it easy to get photos too as they are trying to attack you and look intimidating.
