Aztlán Ocelotl the Hunter Who Became a Warrior | Video Game Character

This new Ready Player One theme is pretty dang exciting, 'cause it fits real well with what we were kicking around last October about what our vision of a video game would be. Mine's called The Rise of Aztlán Ocelotl, about an Aztec warrior driven by revenge and wanting to get back what was taken from his people after the colonizers showed up and all the bad stuff that came with 'em. If you wanna get the whole story, check out my post right here.

Basically, my character is an Aztec dude who goes through some serious emotional changes. He starts out as a peaceful hunter, taking care of his village and his family, and turns into a stone-cold warrior with some unique jaguar and nature-based skills. He even goes through some heavy moral and emotional stuff when he realizes his people can't beat the new enemies and that he's gotta learn from them to figure out how to win, even if it means using their own weapons.

Name and What It Means

Aztlán Ocelotl ("Aztlán the Jaguar") – this name's got meaning. "Ocelotl" represents his connection to the beast, like being stealthy and skilled, fierce, and having a sense for the supernatural. Aztlán is the name of this legendary, awesome place for the Aztec civilization, like a dream of getting back the best their people ever had.

Story Arc

  • Balanced Beginning: He's a well-respected hunter, his wife's pregnant, and he's living in harmony with nature. At first, he's just got this one skill called "Jaguar's Trail" that lets him track animals and enemies super accurately.
  • The Fall and Invasion: His village gets burned down by the colonizers, and his wife is killed. He survives the attack 'cause he was out hunting, and when he gets back, he finds everything destroyed and his wife's body. This is what sets off his rage and desire for revenge.
  • Revenge: His bow and arrow used to be his tools, but now they're deadly weapons. He also uses this thing called a macuahuitl and gets his first bit of revenge, using his tracking skill to catch up to the group that did the massacre. But he finds out his weapons are kinda basic, and his fighting skills ain't enough to take on everyone, so he's gotta bail.
  • The Search and Getting Better: He tries to get help from the leaders of his people, but he quickly realizes they're way too stuck in their old ways and think their gods are gonna make them strong. He's already faced the enemy and knows they can't win if they don't try something different. A shaman tells him he needs to hit up a bunch of temples to gain skills that'll make him a stronger warrior.

Skills

  • Jaguar Fury: This is all about fast and deadly attacks, but also being super sneaky.
  • Jaguar Skin: This gives him better resistance to damage and helps him blend in with the jungle.
  • Ancient Claws: This lets any weapon he uses break through any armor.
  • Tracking and Survival with Eagle Vision: He can mark enemies and resources.
  • Making Poisons with Plants: Pretty self-explanatory.

Combat

  • He starts out using a bow and arrow and the macuahuitl, but since it's made of obsidian, the attacks aren't very effective against the enemy's armor. His combos are pretty basic too.
  • After visiting some temples, he gets the ability to improve his combos.
  • He starts using European weapons like the sword, but he's slow with it at first. It does help him break through defenses, though.
  • When he visits other villages, he gets better with his archery using poisons and traps (like a blowgun for distractions).
  • He can call on a jaguar to attack enemies, and an eagle reveals the map.
  • He uses guerrilla tactics with allies, and little by little, he builds an army for the final fight – the Army of Aztlán.

Reputation and Morals

Revenge is what gets him going, but as the game goes on, freeing his people becomes more important. He's gotta choose between killing the Spanish leader for personal revenge or saving his people by kicking out the Spanish armies for everyone's freedom.

Using his enemies' resources makes his own people turn against him. So, he's stuck trying to figure out if he should stick to his traditions and resources, being true to what he's always known, or do whatever it takes to beat the enemy, even if it means going against honor and tradition.
