Cuando era un niño me encantaba dibujar muchísimo, creo que era lo que más hacía, era lo único que podía hacer y lo que realmente me entretenía. En aquél tiempo no tenía una computadora, tampoco demasiados amigos. Mis padres tenían un viejo VHS y solo teníamos 3 casetes. Uno de esos casetes creo que era un eco del embarazo de mi madre, de cuando yo estaba en su vientre. El segundo era la película de Spider-man, y el tercer casete tenía un curso de dibujo y de pintura al óleo. Ese pequeño curso era complicado, sin embargo aprendí varias cosas, así como mirar a los objetos en diferentes perspectivas(3D) y el tema de las sombras, aunque este último fue un problema.

Más tarde comencé a vender pequeños dibujos en la escuela, además de vender mis juguetes. Hacía dibujos de Pokémon y de Dragon Ball, me encantaba dibujar a Mewtwo y a Latias. Me encantaría poder mostrarles como eran mis dibujos en aquél entonces, pero nunca los fotografíe o grabé.

Siempre tuve la habilidad de copiar todo lo que veía, obviamente de una manera bastante simple y poco realista, aunque mis dibujos no eran la gran cosa, para mi tenían un gran valor sentimental. Hubo un dibujo que realmente me encantó, para mi fue el dibujo que jamás podría volver a hacer, era el dibujo que más emocionado me ponía, sentía que había mejorado bastante, era mi "obra maestra". Mi dibujo era de Pan, la sobrina de Goku, quien para mi era uno de mis personajes favoritos.

Lastimosamente toda historia tiene su parte triste. Mi obra maestra fue profanada por mi madre, ella no lo hizo apropósito, pero si lo tiró a la basura sin darse cuenta y eso me desmotivo muchísimo, hasta el punto de abandonar el dibujo. Era un niño, así que esta tontería me hizo dejar de hacer una de las cosas que más disfrutaba.

Crecí y sin darme cuenta siempre terminaba dibujando por culpa de la escuela, algunas veces mi madre me pedía ayuda para dibujar alguna cosa para mis hermanas, el dibujo siempre estuvo ahí, pero bastante oculto.

Decidí practicar hace varios meses, así que dediqué parte de mi tiempo a dibujar en digital, pero no me sentía para nada cómodo haciéndolo con el Mouse, a pesar de que soy zurdo y me acostumbré a utilizar el Mouse con la mano derecha. Hay artistas increíbles que dominan el arte digital utilizando el Mouse, este no fue mi caso. Después de esa introducción, el día de hoy les presentaré mi tableta gráfica, ya llevaba bastante tiempo queriendo una, incluso pedí varias opiniones acerca de las marcas y siempre recibía las mismas respuestas, aún así yo quería probar alguna marca que no fuese tan conocida y pude conseguirlo.

La tableta que compré es una XENX P3-1060, la encontré en venta en la plataforma de mercadolibre y me enamoró la primera vez que la vi. Pude ver que tenía muchos botones y que era bastante minimalista, aunque no sabía nada de ella. Busqué reseñas en Youtube y para mi sorpresa solo existía una de un usuario que parecía que estaba promocionándolas. Eso me hizo desconfiar un poco, aún así me arriesgué, pensé que estaría interesante traer algo nuevo, así que les presento mi tableta gráfica:

Esta tablet tuvo un costo de 60$. Le doy gracias a @brataka quien me prestó esa cantidad en HBD y me dejó pagarle poco a poco. Gracias dude. Ya que lo mencioné, también quiero agradecerle por los consejos que me ha dado. Me sugirió algunos libros que él utilizó para aprender, también algunas técnicas y algunos ilustradores increíbles, realmente él hace que dibujar sea sencillo. Este post no hubiese sido posible sin su ayuda. Si no conoces su arte, visita su blog, es un artista increíble. También he visto algunos cursos en Skillshare, es una plataforma bastante interesante en donde puedes aprender muchas cosas, incluso a cocinar.

Empecemos con el Unboxing!

Lo primero que hice fue llamar a los muchachos al Discord de HiveGC y les hice un directo del Unboxing, así que me acompañaron durante todo el rato y me iban dando las opiniones de lo que veían(@brataka, @oldfool, @gabrielserra y @starmangk). El empaque vino bastante bien protegido y bien sellado. Intenté abrirlo con las manos, pero tuve que buscar unas tijeras. Admito que fue complicado hacer el Unboxing con una mano.

Después de quitar el envoltorio de plástico, procedí a inspeccionar la caja por delante y por detrás. Honestamente la presentación de la caja no me gustó demasiado, hubiese preferido que eliminaran el "P3-1060B" y dejaran ese espacio en negro, hubiera sido más "elegante" por así decirlo. En presentación le doy un 4 de 10.

Cuando abres la caja todo está ordenado de forma simple. 2 cajas pequeñas en donde van los cables y el lápiz. Para el final, está la cubierta de cartón negro en donde está la tableta y las instrucciones en una pequeña hoja de cartón.

La tableta es de un tamaño 10x6, 335mm-203mm. Apenas la cogí me di cuenta de lo liviana que era, mucho más liviana que un libro con pocas páginas. Nunca he tenido una tableta gráfica y creo que nunca he tocado una, así que no puedo comparar los materiales de fabricación con los de las otras marcas. A primeras notas que es un producto que tienes que cuidarlo bien y que es frágil, pero tampoco tanto.

Al conectarla se enciende un pequeño led de color azul oscuro que no se ve demasiado bien, hubiese preferido un azul más claro. Los drivers puedes encontrarlos en la página oficial. Después de instalarlos ya puedes dibujar tranquilamente. Yo no tuve que calibrar nada, ya que me pareció excelente la configuración que trae por defecto. Al pasar el lápiz por la tableta se siente bastante bien y no me costó demasiado acostumbrarme.

Para probarla utilicé mi amado MediBang Paint Pro, si no conoces ese software, te lo recomiendo, es totalmente gratis. También utilicé Krita, que actualmente es mi programa favorito para ilustrar, me siento muy cómodo con ese software. Utilicé Paint Tool SAI versión 2, pero este último no me terminó de convencer, más que todo por su interfaz blanca que me quema los ojos. Probablemente exista alguna manera para añadirle una skin oscura, pero por ahora es el programa que menos me gusta. Por último probé el Photoshop, todo iba perfecto.

Hay algo que no he dicho, pero tengo 14 días con la tableta, dos semanas aproximadamente. Estos días he estado practicando mucho la estructura de la nariz, ya que me divierte mucho hacer narices. @brataka quiere que aprenda acerca de la anatomía y aprenda a dibujar bubis, guiño guiño.

Para acostumbrarme hice muchas cosas, figuras al azar, algunos dibujos sin sentido, círculos, rayas, espirales, probé varios pinceles de Krita y luego no sabía que hacer. Si sientes que al dibujar solo te salen rayones, es porque obviamente tu mente no tiene la información necesaria como para plasmarla en el lienzo. Siempre que puedas, debes de utilizar una imagen de referencia para saber que es lo que vas a dibujar, de lo contrario, no sabrás lo que dibujas, caminarás a oscuras por un terreno lleno de minas.

Lo sé, no es perfecto. Está muy lejos de ser perfecto ya que aún no está terminado. No sé hacer pestañas, hay muchas cosas que aún no sé hacer, sobre todo pintar. Este es el resultado de más de 8 horas de práctica y estoy orgulloso. Ya mencioné que es importante dibujar con una imagen de referencia, así que utilicé una imagen de una chica que encontré en Facebook(No sé quién es la chica).

Podrás notar que en la primera imagen mi chica elfo tiene un gorro verde, pues mi idea era hacer una mujer elfo enfermera. Lo sé, es algo raro, pero es lo que se me ocurrió en ese momento. Mientras más avanzaba, el gorro de enfermera dejó de gustarme(no supe hacer la cruz roja), así que decidí hacer un gorro parecido al de Link de Zelda.

Pinté el gorro y la cara. Las sombras me costaron bastante, de hecho creo que las sombras no están correctamente, pero para mi quedan bien. Debo de seguir practicando. Utilicé los mismos tonos de color de la imagen de referencia. La herramienta gotero me ayudó bastante.

El cabello es de un tono más claro que el de la imagen de referencia. Me gustó mucho ese color, aunque aún no sé dibujar el cabello, de eso te podrás dar cuenta. A mi me gusta que se vean las líneas de mi boceto, sin embargo, me gustaría taparlas con color, solo que no queda nada bien si lo hago. Más tarde, decidí hacerle una pequeña trenza.

Los ojos son un reto para mi, no sé como colorearlos, así que @brataka me explicó como podría hacerlo y me guie a través de un tutorial de Youtube. Antes los ojos no encajaban, así que tuve que modificarlos varias veces hasta que por fin me gustaron.

La estructura de la nariz de este dibujo me encantó, es lo que me gusta más del dibujo junto a su oreja de elfo, notarás que le hice algunos reflejos de luz vagos. Estoy orgulloso por lo rápido que pude mejorar en un solo día, me emociona bastante. Mi meta antes de que termine el mes es poder terminarla. Tengo que dominar las sombras al pintar, los reflejos de luz, el cabello, también debo de aprender a hacer los ojos más detallados y las pestañas que actualmente son mi mayor enemigo. Me hubiera encantado haber tomado capturas de todo el procedimiento, no creí que mi dibujo realmente me gustaría tanto.

En cuanto al producto, esta tableta me ha funcionado de maravilla. Es suficientemente grande para mi mano, tiene 10 botones para no tener que utilizar el teclado, es bonita en el escritorio y minimalista, además que para los zurdos como yo viene bien, solo debo de girarla y parece que se hubiera hecho así. No puedo recomendarla aún ya que aún no tengo mucho tiempo utilizándola, pero probablemente luego de unos meses usándola le haga la review que se merece. Vuelvo a agradecer a @brataka, quien me ha enseñado mucho y me ha motivado a seguir mi camino de artista digital. Obviamente seguiré practicando fuera de lo digital y así mejorar en ambas partes. When I was a kid I loved to draw a lot, I think it was what I did the most, it was the only thing I could do and what really entertained me. At that time I didn't have a computer, I didn't have too many friends either. My parents had an old VHS and we only had 3 cassettes. One of those cassettes I think was an echocardiogram of my mother's pregnancy, from when I was in her womb. The second was the Spider-man movie, and the third cassette had a drawing and oil painting class. That little course was complicated, however I learned several things, such as looking at objects in different perspectives (3D) and the subject of shadows, although the latter was a problem.

Later I started selling small drawings at school, as well as selling my toys. I did drawings of Pokémon and Dragon Ball, I loved to draw Mewtwo and Latias. I would love to be able to show you what my drawings looked like back then, but I never photographed or recorded them.

I always had the ability to copy everything I saw, obviously in a rather simple and unrealistic way, although my drawings were no big deal, for me they had a great sentimental value. There was one drawing that I really loved, for me it was the drawing that I could never do again, it was the drawing that made me most excited, I felt that I had improved a lot, it was my "masterpiece". My drawing was of Pan, Goku's niece, who for me was one of my favorite characters.

Unfortunately, every story has its sad part. My masterpiece was desecrated by my mother, she didn't do it on purpose, but she threw it in the trash without realizing it and that demotivated me a lot, to the point of giving up drawing. I was a kid, so this nonsense made me stop doing one of the things I enjoyed the most.

I grew up and without realizing it I always ended up drawing because of school, sometimes my mother asked me for help to draw something for my sisters, drawing was always there, but quite hidden.

I decided to practice several months ago, so I dedicated part of my time to draw in digital, but I didn't feel at all comfortable doing it with the mouse, even though I'm left-handed and I got used to use the mouse with my right hand. There are amazing artists who master digital art using the mouse, this was not my case. After that introduction, today I will present you my graphic tablet, I had been wanting one for a long time, I even asked several opinions about brands and I always received the same answers, even so I wanted to try a brand that was not so well known and I was able to get it.

The tablet I bought is a XENX P3-1060, I found it for sale on the mercadolibre platform and I fell in love the first time I saw it. I could see that it had a lot of buttons and it was quite minimalist, although I didn't know anything about it. I looked for reviews on Youtube and to my surprise there was only one from a user who seemed to be promoting it. That made me a little suspicious, still I took a chance, I thought it would be interesting to bring something new, so I present you my graphics tablet:

This tablet had a cost of 60$. I thank @brataka who lent me that much HBD and let me pay him back little by little. Thanks dude. Since I mentioned it, I also want to thank him for the advice he gave me. He suggested me some books he used to learn, also some techniques and some amazing illustrators, he really makes drawing easy. This post would not have been possible without his help. If you don't know his art, check out his blog, he is an amazing artist. I've also seen some courses on Skillshare, it's a pretty interesting platform where you can learn a lot of things, even cooking.

Let's start with the Unboxing!

The first thing I did was to call the guys on the HiveGC Discord and I made them a live Unboxing, so they accompanied me during the whole time and were giving me the opinions of what they saw (@brataka, @oldfool, @gabrielserra and @starmangk). The packaging came pretty well protected and well sealed. I tried to open it with my hands, but had to find some scissors. I admit it was complicated to do the Unboxing with one hand.

After removing the plastic wrapping, I proceeded to inspect the box front and back. Honestly the presentation of the box I didn't like too much, I would have preferred if they had removed the "P3-1060B" and left that space in black, it would have been more "elegant" so to speak. In presentation I give it a 4 out of 10.

When you open the box everything is arranged in a simple way. 2 small boxes where the cables and the pen are inside. For the end, there is the black cardboard sleeve where the tablet is and the instructions on a small cardboard sheet.

The tablet is 10x6 size, 335mm-203mm. As soon as I picked it up I noticed how light it was, much lighter than a book with a few pages. I've never owned a graphics tablet and I don't think I've ever touched one, so I can't compare the manufacturing materials with the other brands. At first you notice that it is a product that you have to take good care of it and that it is fragile, but not that fragile.

When connected, a small dark blue LED lights up and it doesn't look too good, I would have preferred a lighter blue. You can find the drivers on the official website. After installing them you can draw with ease. I didn't have to calibrate anything, as I found the default settings excellent. It feels quite good when you move the pen across the tablet and it didn't take me too much time to get used to it.

To test it I used my beloved MediBang Paint Pro, if you don't know that software, I recommend it, it's totally free. I also used Krita, which is currently my favorite program to illustrate, I feel very comfortable with that software. I used Paint Tool SAI version 2, but this last one didn't convince me, mostly because of its white interface that burns my eyes. There is probably a way to add a dark skin, but for now it is the program I like the least. Finally I tried Photoshop, everything was perfect.

There is something I haven't said, but I have 14 days with the tablet, two weeks approximately. These days I've been practicing a lot the nose structure, since I have a lot of fun making noses. @brataka wants me to learn about anatomy and learn how to draw nipples, wink wink.

To get used to it I did many things, random figures, some drawings without sense, circles, stripes, spirals, I tried several Krita brushes and then I didn't know what to do. If you feel that when you draw you only get scratches, it's because obviously your mind doesn't have the necessary information to capture it on the canvas. Whenever you can, you should use a reference image to know what you are going to draw, otherwise, you won't know what you are drawing, you will walk in the dark through a land full of explosive mines.

I know, it's not perfect. It's far from perfect since it's not finished yet. I don't know how to do eyelashes, there are many things I still don't know how to do, especially painting. This is the result of more than 8 hours of practice and I'm proud of it. I already mentioned that it is important to draw with a reference image, so I used an image of a girl I found on Facebook(I don't know who the girl is).

You may notice that in the first image my elf girl has a green hat, because my idea was to make a female elf nurse. I know, it's a bit weird, but that's what I came up with at the time. The more I progressed, the more I didn't like the nurse's hat (I didn't know how to make the red cross), so I decided to make a hat similar to Link's from Zelda.

I painted the cap and the face. The shadows cost me a lot, in fact I think that the shadows are not right, but for me they look good. I must keep practicing. I used the same color tones of the reference image. The eyedropper tool helped me a lot.

The hair is a lighter shade than the reference image. I really liked that color, although I still don't know how to draw hair, that's what you can see. I like the lines of my sketch to show, however, I would like to cover them with color, it just doesn't look good if I do. Later, I decided to braid her hair a little bit.

The eyes are a challenge for me, I don't know how to color them, so @brataka explained how I could do it and I was guided through a Youtube tutorial. Before the eyes didn't fit, so I had to modify them several times until I finally liked them.

I loved the structure of the nose in this drawing, it's what I like the most about the drawing along with his elf ear, you'll notice I did some vague light reflections. I'm proud of how fast I was able to improve in just one day, I'm pretty excited. My goal before the end of the month is to be able to finish it. I have to master the shadows when painting, the highlights, the hair, I also have to learn how to make the eyes more detailed and the eyelashes which are currently my biggest enemy. I would have loved to have taken screenshots of the whole procedure, I didn't think I would really like my drawing that much.

As for the product, this tablet has worked great for me. It's big enough for my hand, it has 10 buttons so I don't have to use the keyboard, it's nice on the desktop and minimalist, plus for lefties like me it comes in handy, I just have to turn it around and it looks like it was made that way. I can not recommend it yet as I have not yet had much time using it, but probably after a few months using it I will give it the review it deserves. I thank again @brataka, who has taught me a lot and motivated me to follow my path as a digital artist. Obviously I will continue to practice outside of digital and thus improve on both sides.
