Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the world has witnessed unprecedented war crimes and the brutal destruction of civilian infrastructure and residential buildings. Russian forces show no regard for the people or their homes, leaving behind only ruins and scorched earth.
Bahmut
Cities in eastern and southern Ukraine, such as Mariupol, Bakhmut, Izium, and many others, have become symbols of a brutal war and relentless attacks by the aggressor. Bombing raids, artillery shelling, and missile strikes are just part of what Ukrainian cities and villages have endured. Under the rubble of destroyed buildings, thousands of civilians perish, including children, women, and the elderly.
Avdeevka
One of the most horrific examples is Mariupol, which was virtually wiped off the map. Before the war, this city was thriving, with modern infrastructure and a multicultural population, but it has now turned into ruins. Following a prolonged siege, Russian forces systematically destroyed buildings, hospitals, and schools, leaving the population without access to food, water, and medical care.
Toretsk
In the occupied territories, Russia not only destroys cities but also seeks to eradicate everything Ukrainian: language, culture, history. Forced deportations are carried out, cultural monuments are destroyed, and Ukrainian children are forcibly taken to Russia, depriving them of their parents and Ukrainian identity.
Rubizhne
The international community must recognize this tragedy and hold the perpetrators accountable for their war crimes. The destruction of Ukrainian cities is not merely a result of military actions; it is a deliberate extermination of civilians that must be condemned at the highest level.
