LEAVE A LEGACY OF FAVOUR FOR YOUR CHILDREN

“And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?, And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet, Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar, And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely show thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually” (2 Samuel 9:1,3,5,7 KJV)

Let me use this medium to encourage you to think beyond yourself. Whether you are single or married, the fact remains that your life will not end with you. You were once a physically nonexistent entity, and your parent didn’t know that someone like you would come. They also didn’t know that their actions back then would have any effect on their next generations. Now you are here, strong and alive, and you know firsthand that the actions of parents affect children, because you are probably having your share of troubles or favours from your parents past actions.

While Jonathan and David enjoyed their friendship, they did not forget about their children. They remembered to make a covenant between themselves concerning timekeeping next generation. Jonathan was convinced that David was going to be king after his father, and so he made a smart move to protect his unborn and born children. Unfortunately, most of Saul’s lineage was wiped out due to some of his evils, but one person remained, his name was Mephibosheth. David suddenly remembered his covenant with Jonathan and sought to know if anyone from Jonathan’s family was still alive, and Mephibosheth was mentioned. David made sure that Mephibosheth ate from his table for the rest of his life, and in addition gave him all the inheritance of both Saul and Jonathan.

So, what will you do? Will you allow a negative history to repeat itself; will you also let down your next generation? I don’t think so. Make covenants with God that will cover your children, born and unborn. Stop any habit or practice that will negatively impact your next generation. Begin to pray for them by name if possible. Raise altars by sacrifice on their behalf from time to time.
May your next generation be blessed.
