I am a little late with the preparation of this wreath, but it is better late than never, as they say. It is also true that my mom would ask me (again, after she asked me last week) what my wreath looked like, so I had no more excuses to delay. 😂 Aw, I think I passed the exam, I sent a photo to my parents and they liked it. 😇
So, today is the second week of Advent. In the Christian tradition, it is the time before Christmas, actually the four weeks before Christmas Day. One of the customs is to have an Advent wreath with four candles in the home and light one candle every Sunday. My parents have a wreath from many, many years ago (decades ago) that my grandmother brought from Germany when she was visiting my aunt. They put new candles every year on the wreath and during the four weeks of this Advent period, they light one candle each Sunday. Today they already have two candles.
But here I am too, I finally have my own wreath ready and here is how I made it. I know it is not perfect but I think I am happy with how it turned out.
The first step was to find any kind of a wreath that has a connection with Christmas. The only shop that was open today was a Chinese shop, where I found a wreath to hang on the door. Well, I didn't use it for that purpose; I prefabricated it. I planned to place it on a large decorative plate which even had a Christmas motif carved into it. I took the picture this way, with a lamp behind the plate so you could see it.
What would I do without helpers in these kinds of activities...? Not much, that is why I again had some helpers. Miss Clarisse whom you already met in one of my posts ironed the Christmas table runner that I hadn't used for years. And Mister Ernesto got the opportunity to cut out all the things from that wreath that I didn't like. 😁
After I cut out (sorry, not me, but Mister Ernesto did that) the horrible parts, I made a place for the candles. These artificial pine tree twigs were flexible, so I could shape them as needed.
I had the pack of these cute candles for years... Now, they are used for a good purpose.
The candle nestled in the greenery. 😁
Little angels - they had bigger sisters who are travelling right now, so they could not form part of this Advent wreath. The little ones would not get lost; they were placed in the centre of the plate, surrounded by the wreath.
It's time to light the candles. Today two. Btw, each candle has a meaning.
They symbolize the concepts of hope, peace, joy and love, which means that today, in my Advent wreath, I lit the candles of hope and peace.
My humble creation found its place on the bookshelf (usually, it is placed on the coffee table - at least, that is where my family places it). All in all, I think it is a decent Advent wreath, well, better could not be as I didn't have real conifer twigs. Maybe next year, if I start preparing it on time. 😁
Looks cute, especially the little angels 👼
We don’t have one… still planning to make a wreath for the front door. 🚪 Just finding time.
Have a lovely evening and great start of the week 😊
I have always wished to have one of those wreaths hanging on the front door as we see in the movies, like big ones... but we never had that. Just some smaller ones, and inside the house.
Thank you, the evening is already quite late, I just saw it now. It would be wise to go to sleep in one or two hours hahaha
Great start of the week to you too 🐝
Me too hahaha as we have a forest behind our cabin. I wanted to make one. So far I have not found time as other urgent things got in the way too. Also just when I wanted to start painting your photo 🫣
I still are planning on starting both 😊 just need some extra time or time traveling 🧳 haha
Hope you managed to go to bed when you wanted.
Thanks a lot, enjoy your new week 🤗
Time - always needed for all the stuff we want to do haha and if an urgent thing gets in the way, then it is complicated but you remember how it is here in Spain - poco a poco, or mañana 😁
Yep… poco a poco! All will be fine in time hehe
We do tend to use mañana still regularly in our conversation at home 🤣😂 very funny
It's the Spanish legacy 😁
It sure is hahaha 🤣
That's a beautiful and meaningful tradition @mipiano! I only have a couple of Christmas wreaths that I hang at the entrance of our home and the bnb units.
Your wreath turned out very nice, especially with the candle burning.
I like how you're safekeeping the little angels😉
The little angels are small, they have to be protected 😉
In our home, it was always the Advent wreath, but we have never had those ones to hang on the entrance doors. I am sure your Christmas wreaths are stylish and nice! Wishing you a very good and happy week, dear @lizelle 🌞🎄
I like your little angels 🙂
Thank you, I liked them too :D
Although my family has always been catholic, we had never made advent wreaths... what a wonderful thing you have done! Do you know what I liked the most? The candles! They are adorable! It reminded me of when we used to make handmade candles at school. They are beautiful!😍
Well, it was just a bit of prefabricating the wreath, adding the candles and angels, and finding that blue crystal plate. It came as the perfect size for the wreath :) You made handmade candles in school? Cool. Estoy esperando al mercadillo navideño, allí seguro que encuentro velas hechas a mano :)
Yes, I bought the paraffin, the moulds, thread, dyes... I did everything myself... there I had everything I needed, here nothing, but I remember! I love handicrafts! The flea markets are here.... I must go!
Aww it's a beautifull tradition! I love your candles, they are so lovely. You did a great job, it is look beautifull
Thank you. It was like playing a bit 😅, like children do and set up a wreath. Now it decorates our living room and reminds me of the time we are in before Christmas 🎄 ☺️
I hadn't heard of this tradition until I came across your post, so, no, it's not a tradition in these parts, or at least in my family haha 😂 but I like the idea, maybe Buhito will be the first generation of the family to encourage this tradition, even if kindness doesn't go with him 🦉
That would be awesome if Buhito would make his own, it would be the first Feathered Wreath, as I suppose he would use his feathers (or someone else's feathers won in a feather-plucking battle) 😂 . About the origins of this Advent wreath, he can read here before he starts making his creation ;)
That Christmas plate is beautiful!
Hahaha Chinese stores never fail in Spain, if they don't have what you are looking for, you will find something similar to solve the dilemma. It has turned out very nice, the truth is that I found your post very instructive, because although here at home we have one of them for decoration, I didn't know the meaning.
This escapes my Latin traditions, I thought it was just a Christmas candle holder hahaha I'm glad to understand why there is only room for 4 candles and its meaning.
May both lit candles and the next ones, fill your home with their meaning. Hugs to your family!
Gracias Nina.
Yes, they have a meaning and I am glad you found it out through this little post. Sorry for my not-so-extensive responses, I just arrived home, ready for a shower and immediate sleep 😴 Hugs to you too from us!
We do not have that tradition, but I consider it very consistent with the desires that each of us have today, hope, peace, joy and love.
Your Advent wreath is beautiful, your parents are happy that you already have it at home. Happy December.🎄😇
Hope, peace, joy and love are always needed; the wishes of our hearts. ;)
Thank you Mamani, I also wish you a joyful December 🎄
That's so pretty, and the fact that it is made from scratch is what makes it beautiful, and with the help of others too, hehe. Designing it to your liking. We don't have a tradition like this I'm not sure if some Filipino do it, but we don't. And the truth is we already stop putting any decorations at home, so it's impossible to make this a thing now at home. 😆
I wish I found a real conifer branch and twigs so as to bend it and make the wreath form by myself, but I had two performances in the morning and imagined myself stopping in a forest and trying to get a breach from a tree - haha, impossible task 😂
Regarding other Christmas decorations, I still haven't decorated the home. A task to write down on my to-do list
So thrilled to see such christmassy posts. Making me feel not alone with the whole festive season. We have a church right besides our farm where they also light each candle per Sunday. They have perfectly colored candles too with purple, pink and white.🕯
Yes, the candles should have been purple, pink, and white, but it is also acceptable if they are all of the same colour, like white. As I had these at home, why not? 😁 even though they are not tall candles, they would actually fit better on the Advent wreath.
I like your style of making the wreath on a plate. nice. In Norway, it is tradition to start at 1st Advent.
I made one.

We are in India and here no tradition of wreaths.
Happy Advent to you and your family. :)
Hey Hindavi :)
Aw, your one is very nice, so good you made it from branches. It turned out gorgeous 😇
Wishing you a happy December in India 🌞
We don’t have a wreath at home, but after seeing this, I feel like I should try making one too.
If you like, try it ;)
Better with fresh, real twigs but it depends on what you find ;)
That is why there said old things can come in handy even when you dont need them anymore, at least the candles safe you some extra bucks buying new ones
Old things can come in handy, true, but sometimes we keep things that we will never use 😁
Store them like forever hoping someday we use them 😃 yahh I know that feeling
Wow! It looks so good and it's a job well done for you.
Personally we don't have it and we don't have that kind of tradition.
Thank you @jenthoughts
Sorry for the delayed response, I missed your comment 🤐
