Complex but simple - Finding pleasure

I've experienced enough life to understand it's the small things, done passionately and often, which are the most valuable to me. I prefer a consistent enjoyment of life rather than leaping from one big thing to the other; those bigger events hold great value however they're sporadic meaning the benefits are also.

Focusing on finding and experiencing those small moments is something I've done for a long while now and I have a long list of little things that bring pleasure, enjoyment, comfort, happiness and other such benefits.

Most revolve around nature as I find so much pleasure from immersing myself within it. I walk a lot and spend long hours in the various parks and gardens around my home and on longer trips into the country; the drive there is pleasant as is the peace and quiet I find. It's in these places I feel cradled and nurtured, but also re-energised, truly alive and inspired.

The first paragraph of this blog describes a moment I was in the gardens after a shower of rain and my contentment touching the soft petals I found there, running my hand upon the leaves and feeling the textures beneath them. I find it very soothing to be in touch, literally, with nature.

I find these small moments in my home also, and even at work, where I've created a space around myself conducive to thought and reflection as much for work. Having an environment I feel comfortable within helps me feel better and that helps me work better whilst at home I feel more content and connected with myself and life.

Another area in which I create these little moments is with other people.

I'm a very private person and let few into my life however I am one who shows kindness, courtesy and generosity also. Doing so is an opportunity to create moments of comfort and happiness for me and others and I get a nice feeling by doing so. It's as easy as a genuine smile, a few words of gratitude, thanks or praise. It doesn't take much but the rewards are great.

I took the photo in this post on my balcony with my little camera. It's nothing special, I'm not a photographer, but the moment was. I spent time enjoying the plant and its compatriots spaced around the small area, felt happy that they seemed a little more perky after I watered them, and marvelled at how complex nature could be, and yet how simple. I'll admit to also feeling the same about myself because I can be both, complex and simple, however the most important thing for me is being comfortable within myself and I am. Mostly.

Small things and moments; I'll take them over the larger any day. There's less peaks and troughs that way and my enjoyment, my pleasure, is more sustained.

I've had that feeling before. It... wasn't with a flower.

I love to take photos too. I really do. I love it. I realised a long time ago that I'm nowhere near the skill level that I would like to be, yet I still enjoy because it brings me joy. Your flower picture is superb. It describes the flower, and tells the story of the moment. That's what photography is intended to do.

I remember you saying you have a few cameras and have been buying old, expired films, Also that you prefer new film and the ability to work the camera to get the best possible results. It's a good hobby I think, harmless and one that can be done alone. Getting the sort of happiness that you get from photography is a good thing.

Thank you for the comment about my little photo, I quite like it.

Thanks again for stopping by and commenting.

I agree, it's those tiny things that matters a lot because the huge one are sporadic as you said.

Everyone should learn to live like you in my opinion, value the tiny things that life gives, then, value their own space, as well as being as accommodating as possible.

I just think the enjoyment is more often and sustainable when taking it from smaller things, more often. I also like your comment, value their own space, as well as being as accommodating which is so true also.

Hi Becca

Your post kind of mirrors an epiphany I've had - I also get an immense amount of pleasure making beautiful things. It was one of the reasons that my previous online shop was so successful - because I poured my heart and soul into what I made and I enjoyed every minute of it. These little moments are so important and without them, you can become like a desert - starved for that moisture you referred to in your post.

Have a nice day. 🌸

because I poured my heart and soul into what I made

This can be done through making, as you say, and in other ways like I do when I'm in natures, or creating a comfy little place for myself at home surrounded by the things I love, my books, the scent of vanilla, jasmine and lavender, my cats and soft music. There's other things and other ways also, all small things that can be done often.

beautiful!

I've been hearing good things about you! hehehe and I finally got a post sent to me to check out!!! (thanks @wesphilbin !!!)

this is so sensual...and the double meaning in the beginning is quite alluring! (and yet, delicate!)

I love how the theme of the small moment started there and wound its way through the narrative that followed.

though that intro was just a small portion of the whole....it was powerful and significant! just like you reiterated throughout the rest!!!

well done, Lady! very much enjoyed!!!

Hello dreemsteem, thank you for visiting, reading and commenting.

Your comments are so nice, and I'm pleased you've picked the emotion or tone I wanted to convey, certainly in the opening paragraph. I try to write in a way that reflects how I feel, and of course, how I think comes through also. It'll not always be great, or even passable, but it's always me and that's what matters to me.

With my creative writing, fiction if you will, I draw on myself, life, experiences, thoughts and feelings and simply write them as best I can to convey something to the reader; that even may be to awaken something within them causing them to feel. I'm not sure how well that works. My most recent post, just now, is designed to do this...I'm not sure how that will play out though, unless people comment.

Thanks for your engagement. It is difficult to get noticed and whilst there's a few who seem to value what I do reaching others is proving difficult. It's for this reason I am so grateful to you for reaching out.
