We can do better

Today, I saw something that struck my mind. It's something that's not strange—it happens regularly—it's just that I don't get to see it often because it's always an unpleasant sight to me.

I returned from work to meet some noise very close to my compound. I went there to see what was happening because the noise sounded very quarrelsome. I got there and saw a guy of around 17–19 years insulting a man old enough to be his father. The manner in which the guy was exchanging words was very offensive, and at that moment, I had to go and join the people who were begging and trying to settle the argument and stop the guy because he was saying way too much. I later found out that the man was actually wrong in the issue that caused the quarrel. But even at that, it is very abnormal, due to the way I was brought up, to insult an elderly man.

Young ones of this age find it very easy to exchange words or throw insults at people, and it makes me wonder a lot because I find it very hard and abnormal to insult an elderly person with harsh words, even if he caused the issue. I know that if someone is in pain or highly provoked, it's very hard to control anger and the words that come out of the mouth, but can shut our mouths too, we can control the anger no matter the situation. It only takes self-control.

We can do better in controlling our anger; it makes the world a better place. Also, parents of this modern age should be keen on training their children in a lifestyle that’s pleasing. They should not allow the fast-growing, uncultured lifestyle of this age to take away the respect and meek lifestyle that's known in the world, at least in Nigeria, in Africa.

Thanks!

I’m a little surprised at this. I mostly hear these things but have never experienced it. It’s very important to control our temper and the things that come out of our mouths.
