I've been saving up all these videos on my phone of all the cool backyard critters I've seen so here's a compilation post. I will be embedding the videos here from twitter!
The first find was something very rare for me. VacheMorte and I were chilling in the backyard and saw this strange insect flying around. I peeled the tape off my camera and started chasing it waiting for it to land. When i finally did I was very confused about what I was seeing, it had the body of a moth but seemed to fly differently. Instead of the wings going up and down together they were sort of spiralling and looked clear. My video isn't very high res sadly because the tape had melted on my lense a bit :D
I did manage to reverse image search a screen shot and it turns out t's a CLEAR WING HUMMINGBIRD MOTH. Google tells me they are common in North America and Europe but I had never seen one. They are a moth but they have some hummingbird characteristics. Here is a clear picture of one:
This toad is so tiny I would have never spotted it if I didn't see it hop across my steps, at first I thought it was a spider. It's about the size of my thumbnails, so smol <3
I see now all the videos are showing here as a thread and I can't add them individually, boo lol, live and learn...
We have a porcupine family in our yard and about a month ago I spotted this wee little guy. When I got close to take a video he started grunting at me like a little pig :)

Here's a vid of this bright colored grasshopper, he was crawling all over the wood but kept kind of fumbling and falling down...
and last up baby Porky feeding from his mom, I was pretty surprised to catch this moment!
