Growing up as kids we always these memories we remember when we were much younger especially the times spent with our parents and friends. As always the memories have it good and bad side we intend not to forget. My growing up however was challenging because my parents didn't have that much to cater for us but they did their best as possible to ensure we were fine.
Growing up with a family of seven where my parents had five children and all are boys wasn't that easy for them but with everyday struggle there is always hope for survival. I grew up in a local area where you really have to struggle hard before you can make ends meet and this was the situation we find ourselves where we had no choice but to make an impact to survive.
One of the good memories I enjoyed while young was when the whole family will gather in the evening to have dinner because my dad do go to work early in the morning and then return in the evening while my brothers and I will go to school and then after school hours we have to go and meet our mother at her shop where she sells things.
The gathering in the evening was something I cherish a lot which made me know that family is important and you intend not to joke having them around which is one good side I need to impact on my children as well. Whenever there's an issue or problem they are the one we intend to meet first before seeking help elsewhere.
What I really learnt from my parents while growing up was having the mindset to be contented with what I have and also try to cultivate the habit by cutting my coat according to my size. However that doesn't mean I shouldn't work harder to achieve something bigger but I should neglect making other people achievement or success deprive me of not becoming a better person.
One negative part of my upbringing was the environment because this is an area where negative things happen which can influence children negatively and this is one part i intend to avoid when trying to take care of my kids. Most parents in the hood back then only have time for their kids when they get back from work late in the evening and the activities such kids would perform while they are away wouldn't be known to them especially when they go out to play with friends.
My brothers and I didn't have that much opportunity to go out and play because we are always with our mother and if we intend to sneak out to play we will receive a heavy beating of our lives. My upbringing as always is surrounded with a lot of memories which is something I wouldn't forget so soon but what is important is the positive part I learnt that I need to pass across to my future kids.
However we aren't perfect in what we do but what makes us better is accepting and correcting our mistakes to avoid it repeating itself again.
