Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog. It's a beautiful Tuesday, and it feels great to be sharing this simple recipe with the Hive community.
For some weeks now, purchasing tomatoes and peppers has been chaotic for many Nigerians. I still don't know why exactly, but I believe some things happens so that we can discover a whole lot of things we are missing out on.
There is a common saying here that there is good in evil and vice versa which inspires me to always get the best out of every situation I find myself in. Since the cost of pepper has skyrocketed badly, many Nigerians have found alternatives to enjoy their meals, especially those that require lots of pepper for preparation.
The current pepper situation in the country reminds of those day when 50 naira worth of pepper was enough to make stew that 2-4 people can enjoy but it's the same anymore.
In my house, we enjoy and eat a lot of soup, which made finding an alternative a compulsory thing for me. Instead of spending outrageously on pepper and still managing it like someone borrowed it, I made up my mind that we would eat more vegetables, which I think is healthier since they contain lots of nutrients and vitamins that are very important to our body system.
Of course, the vegetables are not free, but I can get them cheaper and in greater quantity than buying pepper, so I just need small peppers and more vegetables for some certain food even though it would fit in with almost all the local foods here.
In this post, I explained how to make vegetable sauce for the likes of rice, macaroni, and others because these foods are inevitable for Nigerians on a daily basis.
Ingredients.
Vegetable
Chicken
Pepper
Onions
Cowskin
Palm-oil
Seasoning cubes
Salt
Procedure
I started by cleaning all the ingredients before processing them.
Let's remember that health is wealth, and everything that goes through our mouths into the belly has a lot to do with our health.
I washed the chicken thoroughly and cooked it with seasoning, salt, and onions.
I boiled some water and rinsed the already-sliced vegetables in it. I drained the water and rinsed again with cold water.
I washed the cowskins thoroughly and cut them into smaller pieces.
I also removed the onions, cleaned them, and sliced them into smaller pieces.
- I heated my pot, poured some palm oil into it, and waited for a few seconds for the palm oil to get hot as well.
- I poured the onions and cowskin in the hot oil and stirred for some seconds before adding the already cooked chicken meat.
I stirred everything and added the pepper to the hot oil about a minute later.
I added the seasoning cubes and salt, stirred everything, and allowed the stew to fry under low heat for about eight minutes, which is enough for the chicken and cowskin to have absorbed enough pepper and seasoning.
- I finally added the vegetables to the stew and stirred. I made sure that the stew mixed properly with the vegetables.
- I allowed it to cook for just two minutes, still under low heat, before removing the pot from the fire.
The soup in the pot is enough for four adults to eat rice or spaghetti, and it cost me just 200 naira for the vegetable. It's not compulsory that you use the same ingredients as I did, but following this procedure will definitely help you make vegetable sauce to enjoy your meals.
I enjoyed my vegetable sauce with rice, and it was delicious. If I had bought the pepper that would serve four people at once, a thousand naira worth of people wouldn't be enough, but 200 naira did the magic.
The high cost of pepper is almost a blessing, and even though I have enough pepper for every meal, I still enjoy vegetables a lot more.

Easy to prepare with chicken, this man no go Kee me, should I send my plate please 🥺
It's easy na, we just have to remove the chicken and replace it with anything. No problem, just send the one with cover so that the soup won't spill.
You're saying it's very cheap to prepare without reminding us that we don't have chicken farm like you do this one I'm seeing chicken meat so 👀
This sauce must have been very delicious, let me just be imagining here until I have money to prepare it.
Well done chef
The chicken is very cheap ooo, all those inferior chicken they sell in my area and I can tell that you will settle for turkey not chicken as a whale.
It's delicious indeed and I believe you enjoy this almost every day.
Vegetable is the way now o... And it's even very cheap. It is the chicken where we will have small comma...
Lemme save this one sharp!
Yeah, vegetables are the best alternative we've got and the good thing is that it's nutritious.
This small chicken? You are very much bigger than this sir.
I hear you sir
lol
I told my Guys Here in Benue About Eating Vegetables Soup or Stew for rice but they were calling me village Boy, that the combination looks somehow, lol they don't know what they are missing,
You are always on point on your cooking boss, very well detailed and yummy looking 😋😋😋🥺😋😋
They are definitely missing a lot because vegetables are the way now except we just want to be wasting our money on pepper.
Thanks for the compliment, man.
I thought it was going to be a really cheap recipe for broke people like us only for me to see chicken and cow skin 😂😂
Does that not remove the essence of trying to cut cost, eh fine Chef? 🤣🤣🤣
I will try the recipe but sir please send me HBD to buy chicken first 🥺😅
It's cheap now, just pretend the chicken isn't there and the chicken self is not expensive, it's just a small quantity.
I will just send a live chicken to you instead so you can enjoy it as much as you want.
This is a nice way to prepare a vegetable soup. You did great! Chef George.
But the chicken ehn 🤣 you want me to go and rob bank ?
Anyways. We don’t really cook vegetables with chicken. It is either meat or fish.
Rob bank as how because of chicken? You are bigger than that, I will send some of the vegetable soup to enjoy your breakfast this cold morning.
My good chef! Sometimes I don't know if to be annoyed after reading and watching your food blogs or to be crazily proud of you, because why is my friend creating all these food masterpieces and I'm not a party to it?
This was lovely to watch, George. And I bet it tastes just as sumptuous. Thank you for sharing.🌺
Don't be offended dear, I wish I could send some too.
😊 Aside from the chicken, this is actually saving cost because the vegetable will give you more quantity and even quality. I love fish more but there are days when I just want to eat meat.
🤗
Really great bro
Nice job, you are just good at cooking
Thanks man, I really appreciate you. Continuous practice brings improvement and that's the beauty of it.
Anytime I come across your post like this I'll just be salivating. I need to come to your place and eat one day. Kudos chef George 🫡
Lolz, you are very much welcome sir. It would be an honour to host a whole you in my small abode.
The rich George himself 😀😀 imagine cooking chicken this period. Haha 😄 just kidding. I love eating vegetable with rice, always sweet. Maybe I should consider making vegetable this coming weekend because it's been a while I ate it. I see cooking vegetable as stress jare. You know, the cutting and slicing etc. So much work for me 😀
Lolz, I bought the chicken from the tip I got from you on Monday and you should be proud I spent it wisely so don't hesitate to give another one next week.
They actually cut the vegetables in my presence where I do buy it so it's always very easy and even if they didn't, my siblings always take care of it.
Thanks for the compliment, looking forward to your vegetables this weekend.
Hahaha. See as Princess is blushing 😊 🤣🤣 that was nice.
I do prefer cutting my vegetables myself, I just don't know why. Perhaps I am just someone who feels insecure when it comes to food 🤔
👏 Keep Up the good work on Hive ♦️ 👏
