Happy 1st Anniversary, Hive Naija

It has been one year since we restarted the Hive Naija community, the Hive community of Nigerians. We started with a new leadership [all six moderators], migrated to a new community page, revamped the Discord server, built a curation project, and provided prompts for every week ever since. The 1st of July marks this date for us, and this is the first anniversary.

A little trip down memory lane, the need to restart the community began with an open letter to Nigerians on Hive by @nonsowrites, and then @deraaa (the community admin) put a team together to take the community forward. Thankfully, we had a massive delegation from @theycallmedan for six months, and that empowered us to build the community faster, like growing the community account (@hive-naija) even faster.

In the last year, the community page has grown tremendously, surpassing what we could have imagined when we started. The community now has 1000 subscribers from about 100 when we migrated. We have provided writing prompts for 52 weeks ever since, and many of the responses we received encouraged us to dey fire dey go. The community page has changed dramatically visually as great quality is part of our ethos.

We have had different activities other than the weekly prompts, such as the 9ja Show and the Weekend Threading by the InLeo team—although both have been discontinued—and the Naijan of the Week initiative. We hope that we will have more activities on and off chain that's inclusive of community members to foster connections amongst ourselves in the various ways that we can.

However, the community cannot be without its people. Each one of you who is a part of us has contributed to the growth and vibrancy of Hive Naija. Your posts, engagement, and participation have brought life to this community and have made it a place where we can connect, share our experiences and thoughts, and grow together.

Moving forward, we only hope to keep growing and expanding. As Nigerians, we're known for our big energy, and our fire just never fades. We've come a long way, yet there's so much we can achieve together, and we will only get them with unity. We have had a wonderful year, and it is also thanks to our team of moderators.
