My Naughty Childhood

in Hive Naija5 months ago (edited)

Childhood lifestyle is always interesting. Whenever I remember my childhood it always puts a smile on my face, sometimes I feel like rewinding time and going back to those days when I lived a free lifestyle without being cautious or anxious about anything whatever came my way I see and continue my journey. I never have the mindset of anyone trying to harm me, I never see anyone as my enemy. I eat with everyone who gives me food.

There are lots of things I did that I am not proud of. Likewise, there are some that I am always proud of doing whenever I remember.

Some of the things I did that I always find funny

I can remember the rate of kidnapping in those days was low rate compared to these days.

There was a man who hawked soap, this man always came to our street to advertise his product. He would always dress like a woman and wear many clothes inside his trousers to form big buttocks.
This man will carry a basket full of soap in his hand and a whistle in his mouth. Whenever I hear the sound of his whistle and the shout of other children running after him I will quickly leave whatever am doing and start following him and we will be shouting (IKEBE SUPER) meaning (super buttocks).

We would always run after him for some hours, without knowing we'd gone far away from the house. sometimes we kept on following him till we left our street and entered other streets and kept on shouting (Ikebe super)till we were tired of shouting and running.
By the time we look back, we've gone far away from our houses.

Unfortunately, we will start running back home very fast to save ourselves from being beaten by our parents.
This is what we kept on doing till we were mature and realized we can't be chasing shadows.

I ensure a mark

In the 90s most families preferred eating rice on special occasions or Sundays because rice was not common the way it is now.

My sister was done cooking rice and brought the stove she used inside the one-room apartment.
On seeing the rice I was very happy, I started to jump from one sofa to another without minding the hot stove that was kept close to the sofa.
I had forgotten the hot stove as I jumped to the next sofa and I couldn't tell how I found my lap on the hot stove and all I would do was shout.
My shouting called the attention of those in the compound including my sister and they ran inside and
quickly looked for an egg and rubbed it on my lap.
I wouldn't eat the rice that day and the scar of that day is still on my lap to date.

The story of childhood is not just a collection of happy memories; it also includes moments of learning and experiences that contribute to maturity.

I often feel nostalgic for a bygone era. But like you, these experiences have shaped the individual I have become.
