My self-care routine is not anything elegant, they are simple things like waking up to drink a glass of water, other times, its just taking care of my environment to feel the freshness of things, at times, its just picking up my bedsheets to wash, sun dry it and lay it down on my bed to sleep. I love cleanliness a lot, there's peace and healing in it. Also, there are times that I just dance, I just find some old or danceable naija music to vibe too.
Other times, self-care is silence, get me right, silence not loneliness, I will just wrap myself up or sometimes I just sit it out, shutting out the noise of the world. Especially in a country like ours where peace is not given, you just have to make time for yourself else, you will be so caught up bthat you won't even have time for yourself, one just needs to pause when life says to keep moving. You have too choose yourself atimes when others expect you to carry their burden alongside yours.
Again, there are days I sit and talk to God, though its not common, but I do usually do it, especially when I feel down and overwhelmed, I won't pray or complain to him, I would just sit it out to talk, I talk tto him as if He's right next to me, I tell him how I feel, I tell him how everything seems to be, I tell him how my day went, how everyone is just trying to survive, during those gistings, there are times I laugh out loud, other times there will just be long silence.
Also, I write, I write a lot, am not really the type who keeps jotters, not that I don't have them, I have quiet a lot, but I prefer writing on my phone note app. I write when I’m confused, when I’m excited, when I’m empty and all, also I am the type that inspiration about anything can just come to my mind, and I began writing, am not always with a jotter, so my phone does it better, sometimes I might be doing something else and a different thing will just pop up, I just write, have written quite a few things, I also motivate and inspire people with my writing, and the response gives me a sense of...you know.
Again, I give time to rest, we sometimes over work and stress too much, rest is needed, I rest, I take naps, I take walks and all, if you say it's laziness, I won't argue... But when all the stress and all tells on your body, you will tell me what that it then. I block people when their energy starts to choke my joy. I don’t explain myself to everyone anymore, and that also is self-care.
I do say these things and people do find it hard to believe, anytime I am broke and I am left with my last card, I do use it to buy something very good eat, I might even order it., that's me, its self-care, you can think otherwise, why will I use my last card just anyhow right? That's just what I do. Alos, I forgive myself when I fall short, I clap for myself when no one does. I no longer wait for big wins beofe celebrating.
Sometimes, I just leave my messages unread, out my phone on flight mode and the likes. I just wake up to stretch and stand before my mirror, reminding the guy staring back that he's is not a problem to be fixed, but a story to be embraced.
Self-care is many little choices that we make daily, you can chose to shout, you can choose to mute, you can chose to cry, you can choose to let go and all.
