Christmas is a festive period that I always look forward to because of the excitement and fun it comes with. Christmas is fast approaching and I can't but think about how I want to spend this holiday, christmas is always fun for me and my family, it is a holiday that comes with lots of planning because it is an avenue for all the family members to meet again. I am always happy every year I see the month of December because I know the goodies that come with the month. It is a big event for my extended family as a whole, we take the opportunity to celebrate our family's end-of-year Thanksgiving.
Since the beginning of December, my dad being the family's event planner has been putting lots of calls through to all the family members to remind them of their responsibility in the celebration to make it a glorious one. Because of the large numbers in my family, every one of the children has one or two tasks to perform. My grandparents, paternal side gave birth to seven children, three males, and four females but unfortunately, we lost the first daughter of the family to the cold hands of death seven years ago. We always remember her every year because if she had been alive, the celebration would have been more loud than the way we do celebrate. The Christmas celebration is always held in my hometown, a village which is located here in Kwara State where my grandparents reside.
The family house is located in my hometown, a building big enough to accommodate every one of us except those in the diaspora. Therefore, I will be traveling to my hometown for the holiday. During Christmas, I get to eat different kinds of delicacies because of the different tribes my uncles got married to. During Christmas, there are lots of food to eat and to drink, I don't spend a dime because the elders of the family get it covered. No one cares about what you eat or how many times you eat a day, unlike normal days when you can eat only three times.
I'm planning on enjoying this holiday with my extended family as it is also coupled with our family's end-of-the-year Thanksgiving. I love the way everyone comes together to celebrate, this always brings a smile to my grandparents' faces, and the way they see their grand and great-grandchildren always brings gladness to their hearts. This is one of the reasons all the available children in Nigeria needed to travel down home to celebrate with them. It is always strengthening the bonds we share as a family and creating that peaceful atmosphere where we can all relate with one another. I am a lover of family and this always brings joy to my heart, there are lots of activities that will be carried out to keep the event and holiday lively for everyone. This is my way of enjoying my holiday because nothing brings more joy than being with my family.
I get to see my aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces once a year, this is a time when we all share the stories of how our year had been, our achievements, our mistakes, and things we are willing to do the coming year. Seeing one another progress is one thing my family is known for, all willing to help one another, I guess this is what keeps us close even up to now. The holiday is going to be filled with memories that won't be forgotten soon. I can't wait to travel because I get the chance to rest and focus more on myself till I resume the new year.
