A FAILED IMPORTER OR A SUCCESSFUL BAKER?

During those years of waiting for admission into the University, I got weary of the little income I was making after giving so much of myself in several jobs. I had tried many jobs, some had working hours of 8am to 10pm, seven times a week but with little pay. My Secondary School Certificate, which was all I had then made a lot of employers devalue the worth I would bring to their organisation despite having passed their interviews. This made me frustrated because my efforts were being underpaid month after month.

More regularly, I started seeing more ads and posts on social media regarding training on Importation. The more I chose to ignore, the more I kept on seeing more adverts and discounts on tutorship.
I finally took it as a sign and decided to partake in one of the classes. I had an idea on it and decided to quit my job and focus on my newly found business. With the motivation I got from my tutor, various importers and colleagues, I placed my first order through a logistics company. Buying from China was cheap but the logistics involved in delivering it to me in one of the Northern state of Nigeria took the quotation to an unplanned and unbudgeted high amount. I had to borrow some money to complete the cost of logistics.

After the drama involved in getting my order (which was shoes and bags) to me, I was set for another disappointment. When my goods arrived, most of it wasn't as nice as they looked on the website, low quality, different sizes and design. I also ordered in small quatity which didn't help my profit. I was so sad and disappointed. I had to reduce the prices I thought I would sell them for, sought for ways to sell them off and refund the money I had borrowed.

After that experience, I was scared of importing again but I was later encouraged by a friend to go into Droppshipping, it would not involve so much capital from me which I heeded to. After creating a group for droppshipping, monies were paid to my account to place order which I did. After placing the order, there was massive increase in dollar rate which would affect the cost of logistics, so I had to report back to the group. There was a lot of disagreement on the group, most people asked for a refund while few said they were going to add up. Since the people that wanted a refund were more, I ended up refunding all the money.
I proceeded from that to pay a good amount of money for legit manufacturers contacts who supposedly were said to sell quality shoes and bags but the Minimum Order Quantity per product were skyscrapingly insane.

I decided to give Importation a break. I concluded importing was for those who have lots of money to order in large quantities and get a return for their investment. Though I may not have succeeded at it, I have however gotten some knowledge and learnt some aspects to Importation which would be very instrumental whenever I decide to go into it again.

When I finally got admission into the University, I needed to have something doing on the side that would support me financially. I had no skill but I so much loved cooking, baking and anything related to it.
I didn't quite have the money to pay for training so I resorted to learning pastries on YouTube.
I decided to first major on Meatpie and fish roll then advance to others. I got an oven and the first meatpie and fish roll I made came out so nice and I decided to go out and try to sell it In my neighborhood.
The outcome was incredible! In no time, it was sold out! People were asking for more!
I made sure to put my best so it could come out very tasty and unique.
That's how I started making meatpie and fishroll, some came from a distance just so they could buy.
They recommended and praised my pastry, I believed I have blessed hands.
From one trial to currently making pastries for sale while schooling has given me some sense of success and fulfilment.

When it comes to importation business, as a newbie without experience you're bound to meet disappointment.

But thank God you got something better doing.

Yes ma. Thank you so much.
