Getting an education

Getting an education doesn't directly benefit my community nor my country. But it definitely will, eventually.

How it currently benefits my community is that I didn't get in the wrong group of people causing havoc in the community. Instead I am being groomed, so one day I am going to make a great and impactful contribution to my community.

There was a case in my community where a thief started disturbing the peace of our community. A community known to be very peaceful. He burgled many houses and many shops. And caused confusion and anger among the people of the community. “Who could be doing this? Such is not known to happen.” People said.

He must have been jobless. He must have been filled with covetousness. He was new in the community and this was his occupation choice. To steal, which was disturbing the peace of the community.

I, on the other hand, am being educated and informed. Once completing my tertiary education I would be an asset to my community and country at large where I would work in corporations who contribute and develop the community through their commercial activities and Corporate Social Responsibilities.

There are the likes of Martin Luther King Jr, Ikemefuna (a fictional character from a book I recently read called “Born to Lead”), Ben Carson, Mrs Tosin (a woman whom I worked with as a volunteer in her cause to give back to a society where she was groomed as a child), Gabriel Olonisakin (a former chief of defense staff in Nigeria). People who have undergone an education and training and have grown to become an asset to their community or country at large. Who have been a blessing, lead people, done things only a few could have done, and contributed to a society that groomed them to what they've become.

I want to become like one of these great men and women who went through the process of grooming, training and education tirelessly, not falling away off track, and now came back to contribute a great deal to their people.

I am currently studying in school and professionally to be an actuary (a professional who uses mathematical methods to manage risks). Living is a risk, from waking up in the morning to cooking (using gas), to stepping out of your home to head to work, to returning from work back home. As common as these activities are, there are cases where we hear bad news of people doing the same usual things we all do.

There was a case of Dana Airlines where a plane landed on a residential building. People living in that building had nothing to do with the plane landing on them. Out of their power an unforeseen circumstance came knocking in their home.

There are cases of people stepping out of their homes and heading to work as everybody does and an accident occurs on their way. Unplanned and unexpected.
Also cases of people going about their activities at work and an accident also occurs at work (especially for those who do risky work).

I can go on and on about how even regular living is a risk. And how I as an actuary can curb the financial hit/loss of an unforeseen circumstance.

Thank you for taking out time to read. Cheers 🥂

Indeed, when we think about people who have caused more harm to our society, we feel like our mere acting in good behaviour is a good contribution to our society already.

I like that you find past great figures inspiring to emulate, the country will find that useful.

Yes. Their achievements serves as an example for me to emulate. I believe I am in my forming/building stage, I am making my little contributions here and there and I will eventually make a great impact in my own way eventually to the society.

I also believe I am not alone and some of us are also working to make contributions and some of us already making an impact.

Patriotic citizens is all the country need presently, and it's nice seeing the way you love your community and trying to make it a place worth living.
