Occurences and Actions of Natural Disasters

Natural disasters have been a menace and an issue in our world today. You hear its occurrence in this part of the world and another. Different sorts of disasters, and in different measures. I've come to think, and question why these disasters occur even. The earthquakes, the floods, the tsunamis, the wildfires, the hurricanes, the tornadoes, like why do all these occur?

They are called natural disasters. Perhaps by the actions of nature, they tend to happen. However, I also consider that the actions of humans have a drastic effect on the actions and occurrences of natural disasters. Though they tend to occur; some just very much natural, yet there could be found underlying impulses towards the actions generated by humans.

Well, the discourse here isn't about who's responsible or to blame. As the prompt read, this year-right from last year even-has been characterised by a number of natural disasters, around the world. One that was so much in the news this year was the Los Angeles wildfire which claimed a lot. As with every natural disaster, it did. And this year, nationally and internationally, there have been cases of natural disasters posing a great threat to lives and property.

I won't say I've really experienced a natural disaster. I've seen some of though in my country on the media outlets. A close and detailed view from these outlets showed how much of a disaster these are. Last year a devastating flood occurred in one of the states that claimed lives numbering more than a hundred and also displaced tens of thousands of residents.

There have been cases this year too; not as massive as that of the last year, but then, that doesn't go without effects. Honestly, when I see such things, it brings a feeling of sadness Seeing people lose lives, and the property they've worked hard to achieve if they eventually survive. If the environmental bodies haven't taken this seriously, I think the statistics should call them to.

Not just them though, but everyone as well. We can be active or passive participants in the actions of these natural disasters. I remember that the cause of the flood that was experienced last year was due to the failure of a dam. Currently, we're in the rainy season, and with that comes the tendency to experience one of these disasters in the name of flood; which seems to be the common one in my part of the world.

The actions of nature have a grappling effect on the occurrence of natural disasters. Much more, is when the actions of humans are involved. The Los Angeles wildfire was started somewhere and with something which could be linked to human actions in a way. This ended up sweeping through a whole district, if I may rightfully say so. Whatever the kind of disaster, I believe there's a way some preventive and proactive steps can be taken, depending on the case.

Here that flooding seems to be the common natural disaster, we can prevent it as much as possible by constant inspection and reinforcement of our dams, providing and clearing of drainages to avoid blockages, providing a free flow path for water, and other ways necessary and helpful. Environmental bodies should be resourceful for such as this. The disasters could still occur, but then, they can be brought to a minimum, with little or no effects.

Yes, you have not experienced a proper natural disasters, and it is not something you will wish to experience... It have caused some people their life, prosperity and others...

Yeah, I know that's true. It's not something to wish to experience. It's usually devastating.

Humans and their every activity has a way of contributing to the occurrence of natural disasters.

True. We need to be very careful and consider our environment very well then.

How I wish the environmental agencies responsible for handling this refuse dump issues do the right thing at the right time. Currently the heavy down pour of rain has caused flooding in so many states in Nigeria.

Yeah, that's true. I find that beyond the bodies, we too have our responsibilities we fail at. Since it's our environment, we can do better too.
