Procrastination is the one habit we all have to deal with, if not every day of our lives, at least once in a while, you know you have to get things done, but either laziness or other distractions keep getting in the way until it is too late to do anything. While sometimes we overcome this habit, there are also certain moments when it wins us, costing us a lot and not worth the time wasted on distraction. Of course, we learn our lesson the hard way.
One complaint common to fashion designers is how we often deliver clothing orders late to our client, it's very common among Nigerian fashion designers, you inform them about your intending occasion so that they can deliver early before said date only for them to end up providing your outfit, on the said day of the occasion, do you know that sometimes it isn't about the fashion designer is too busy that makes your order late but procrastination, I swore never to be like such designers because I've also been a victim and knew how annoying and inconsiderate it felt, not until this very moment, it is one of the worst days for me.
A client had reached out to me about a dress she wanted in two weeks for her friend's wedding, and we concluded on the style she desired and payment was made, it was an easy style, so I thought and didn't worry my head too much about it, anytime, I felt I needed to make the dress, or at least source for the material, I would always end up doing other things or dresses that still had enough time to be delivered but was more technical,
Not until it was two days left to the agreed day of delivery, unfortunately for me, I couldn't get the desired fabric from where I was used to getting them, and the worst part was that she was the only person who had that quality of fabric in the whole market, she kept wishing I had come even a day earlier, as the last roll was sold the previous day, and her next supply was coming in 3 days time, ah! when I had just less than 48 hours to work on the dress,
I couldn't call the client the client to inform her about this, as I had already told her during our chat that I was already working on the dress, I started panicking because she was one client who paid well and was very kind and even referred other customers, to cut the story short, I had to order for the fabric expressly online, paid more than double of the amount I would have bought it, which meant I had to work on the dress for free now, as my profit went into ordering the dress to please my client, the worst part was they didn't deliver the quality I was promised online, I became a victim of 'what I ordered vs what I got' it felt like the worst day doing this job.
With just 24 hours left, I covered my face in shame, called, and explained the situation to the client with plenty apology, she later chose another style in which the fabric could be easily sourced, and I worked that same day and night to complete the dress on time, though it fitted well, but it had already cost me more money and almost cost me a good client.
From that day henceforth, I learned the hard way to always get things done when they need to.

This is what most fashion designers do, they can finish the job in a day but they keep waiting for the last minute to get it done and in the end, do a bad job or are unable to finish it, Thank God I don't sew natives...
Good thing your client forgives you and keeps giving you work🙂
Oya you have catch me🙈😩🤭😂
This thing she did to me and I swore never to sew again, even though shes my sister, I still feel the burnt more than anyone
The good thing is I deliver at the end, sewing is not as easy as people think, especially for a creative designer.
This is also the same thing my designer does virtually all the time you give her your material on time only for her to start sewing that same day you want to come get it nevertheless she's so good and delivers. Glad you were able to retain your customer back
Glad it ended on a good note, jobs can be overwhelming sometimes though
that's true
