As someone who is just beginning to relish the beauty that AI has brought into my life lately and with my interest to learn more about Ai and machine learning, I’d like to dabble into this topic with utmost balance and without bias.
Talking of the intentions behind AI creation, I’d like to make a little reference to how school was and the making of research before we got exposed to goggle search engine. It was a Herculean task as we dabbled from one page of big encyclopedias and text books to another all in a bid to make researches. But with the coming of search engines, that aspect of human work has been made more easier than it has ever being and I’d liken the same with AI creation.
Most task we do requires alot of human intelligence, learning, perception and the making of decisions to solve these problems we encounter on day to day basis. Hence the primary purpose for creating AI is simply to help humans with these intricate process of learning, inquiries, perceptions, intelligence and also decision making to solve the problems we encounter on day to day basis. The goal of AI is not complement the capabilities of humans and not to take our place. It’s meant to help us to improve our efficiency in the different areas we find ourselves in and also helping us to navigate our ways through tasks that may be reoccurring or automated.
Many people are saying alot of things about AI, some saying positive things while others are negative about it. It’s common sense as we all know that whatever have an advantage obviously has a disadvantage and AI not left out of this. Let explore some of the pros and the cons of the uses of AI.
Some positive impacts of AI in our lives includes:
- AI has gone a long way to help humans in saving more time and has also made our work more creative and strategic. To this I can really attest to. Sometime ago, I was working on revamping my CV which in the past could take so much time to do but I had the help of copilot on my system and in no time, I was able to come up with a beautiful CV and cover later that depicted what I wanted. This helped to save me time to do other things that was on my tab other than using the whole day trying to rack my brain around it. It was a joint effort as I provided the prompts, the AI did its part and I also had to adjust the final outcome to my best fitting. A perfect combination that made for more efficiency and speed.
AI has helped to tailor our process of making decisions through its ability to analyze a huge amount of data in a short time frame and provides us with succinct and useful predictions and insights that ends up helping us with the right information to making informed decisions easily which still saves us time. For examples, there are times when I see huge files that I just want to make a simple summary of, instead of taking my entire time to read the whole article, AI helps me to get a summary of the whole information and then makes it easier for me to extract the succinct information I was looking for, Saving me the stress, energy and time for all that long process.
AI is good when it comes to offering us experiences, services and even recommendations that are personal to us hence improving our engagements with people and things and also granting that tailored satisfaction we desire. AI comes in handy with helping the growth of various business models and products and services. A lot of people at able to create their business brand and do much more through tailored prompts given to different AI which I turn gives them what they are looking for. AI creates videos, charts and anything you want it to help with provided it’s fed with the right prompts and this is a great relieve for so many business brands and individuals.
Lets also see some cons associated with AI:
With the rise of AI, a lot of individuals are losing their jobs and more are yet to loose their jobs especially those with routine and automated jobs meaning that we would be faced with more challenges of unemployment with the increasing rise of AI dominance.
Systems that are powered with AI can be at a risk of cyber attacks and security bridges and also there would be an issue with AI in spreading bias if they are created with biased data.
Use of AI can lead to humans becoming over dependent on AI and then leading to reduction in the critical thinking abilities of humans as we are already seeing.
Well, it doesn’t look like AI trends are about to be stopped. Instead of looking to stop AI which may be completely impossible considering the rise of technology, what we should be looking at keeping in mind its pros and cons while seeking to use and develop AI in a way that it would make for more positive impact while reducing its negative impact in the society
No doubt artificial intelligence has come to stay and we humans are giving it the room to kick us out of our jobs because of how much we rely and depend on them to get things done for us.
