Hive Governance vs Steem Governance

in Hive Governance4 years ago

Pretty f'd up what's going on over at Steem.

Not only are Witnesses from the community elected as soon as they promise their allegiance to Sun. There are also Witnesses with accounts younger than 3 days voted by Sun, that are seemingly from within the community. But it should be obvious that those are simply sockpuppets in disguise.

And I think there is even some proof:

All of the previous sockpuppets accounts and most of the "new ones", have the same pricefeed age.

Take a look below. (far right is the pricefeed: $0.148/$0.149/$0.150 - 6 hours ago)

Untitled 19.png

  • Purple: Initial sockpuppet accounts created by Justin Sun to overtake Steem
  • Yellow: "New" community witnesses that were voted by Justin Sun less than a week after their account was created.

It's not a coincidence, that all of those accounts highlighted published their latest price feed 6 hours ago.

Normally, it should look something like this:

image.png

Can you see how diverse the timestamps are? 9mins, 5hrs, 23mins, 3hrs, 3mins.

That's because every one of those Witnesses is an individual, running their own servers. This is crucial for the governance & security of the blockchain.

But what Sun is doing, is to undermine the whole point of a blockchain.

Which is a primary reason why #Hive was created: to protect the governance of Steem. Since we couldn't do it exactly on Steem, due to the ninja-mined stake, we're doing it on Hive.

On Hive, the real decentralized spirit of Steem lives on.

Sort:

While your criticisms of Sun and Steem are on point and factual, your claim Hive is decentralized is false. It is more decentralized than Steem, but ~45% of stake is held by ~a dozen whales. It is they that govern Hive, and that is only an order of magnitude improvement on Steem's extant circumstances.

That is not enough decentralization of governance.

The bare fact is that as long as stake alone is how governance is effected, Hive remains vulnerable to accumulation of stake, which is shown to inevitably occur historically, and Hive will eventually suffer the exact takeover that Steem has.

It's a mathematical certainty.

Additionally, I have long noted your facility with deceptive phrasing, and you reveal that propensity again here. All Steem extant has been mined, except for that produced as rewards, which is the result of inflation of mined stake. Since Hive simply reproduces the stake in Steem, the distribution of stake on Hive is only different than on Steem presently because we have jammed the founder's mined stake into the HPS, and on Steem Sun Yuchen holds it personally.

Currently on Hive ~45% of stake is held by whales, and almost all of that stake was mined exactly as the stake Sun holds now.

I cannot simply ignore your disingenuity that perpetuates the existential threat to Hive that exists right now. If Hive does not modify how governance of the blockchain is effected, it will be taken over by whoever gains enough stake. The month delay in powerup only protected us during the fork from stake held by exchanges, and is not a meaningful mitigation of this vector of threat.

While our present oligarchs have demonstrated they are committed to free speech, the fact of the matter is none of them will live forever, and inevitably the stake they possess and manage according to their preference for censorship resistance will eventually be used to influence Hive governance by others according to their views.

Sooner or later, unless we change how we elect witnesses, Hive will fall to exactly the 51% attack that has successfully taken over Steem.

Edit: I here invite both @smooth and @pal to justify their flags with statements that support their apparent disagreement with this statement. Do not appear to be cowards afraid of flags. Have the courage of your convictions, as I have. If you have no case, your flags are indictments of your corruption by the oligarchy.

I will immediately withdraw my vote for @smooth's witness, as I had not thought him either corrupt or a coward until now. In neither case can I support his witness any longer. I suggest all those voting for it consider this flag, and his reply to this post - or lack of it.

I hear this criticisms of economic systems all the time.

"Those with all the money make the rules!”

This is true. Do you have a better suggestion? If so, what is it?

Read Nassim Taleb’s book Skin in the Game to understand why every system that doesn’t reward those with skin in the game and give them influence over future outcomes ultimately fails. Every time.

It’s very easy to critique, but much more difficult to provide actual solutions which have been proven to work. If you’re suggesting all the value of Hive should be gambled on a untested idea, good luck finding support for that. Some people, like me, made significant investments into HIVE (~9 BTC back when it was still called STEEM and trading around $2 and $3 before crashing to $0.07). I have skin in the game. It’s part of the reason I’ve been around here for almost four years. Do you think anyone and everyone should have the same influence over governance regardless of their investment? If so, how do you propose actually coding that into a blockchain consensus rule set which will be more robust than what we have now?

I’d like to see Hive be more about solutions than complaints. It’s way to get support when pointing out things could be better. It’s much, much more difficult to get support for a solution.

I agree, our governance model needs to be tweaked if not changed!

If something besides mere money isn't part of influence on governance, then money enough will be all it takes to take over Hive, and there's plenty of censors with more money than enough.

I unvoted them all. My vote never mattered ever, only what I know matters.

I do not fail to sympathize completely. I know I am going to die. I still seek to live.

I have sought instead of not voting to vote for individuals I have personal knowledge and experience interacting with, or folks I haven't heard bad things about. I also seek to vote for folks not in the consensus, as this financially matters to them, while making no difference at all to those in the top 20.

Yep pretty much meaningless in the larger scheme of things

Can you please back your 45% claim up with proofs?

@arcange publishes daily stats regarding Hive, just as he long has regarding Steem.

The above is taken from his post today.

OK EVERyONE LOOK here ^

your finger must smell really good

Perhaps I should point out my avatar is not actually a pic of me, but of some poor New Guinea native amusing colonialists, presumably at some point in the 19th or 20th Century.

I relate to the look in his eye.

that makes sense, my avatar is actually not me either, believe it or not

Oh hey DF, looks like we agree on two things.

Should also mention how our present miner oligarchs decided to leave out over 4 million worth of steem from the hive "air drop" further securing their own positions.

We will agree on all things on which you intend to be reasonable. At least once you are cured of your bestiality obsession.

Perhaps you could explain why you want 4M free Hive tokens to undermine Hive governance as your ilk undertook on Steem?

At least once you are cured of your bestiality obsession.

Hey man, you're the one who hints at it all throughout your blog.

Perhaps you could explain why you want 4M free Hive tokens to undermine Hive governance as your ilk undertook on Steem?

If by "undermine steem governance" you mean not being 100% ok with a drastic step (call it a pre-emptive strike if you must) taken by the witnesses without community discussion then I think it is healthy to have differing viewpoints in a democracy.

Acting to support totalitarian tyranny is not democracy.

Stop lying and I'll stop flagging.

Acting to support totalitarian tyranny is not democracy.

Preventing a totalitarian tyrant from hard forking the chain is not supporting them. Supporting them wluld have been letting them do what ever they want.

Stop lying and I'll stop flagging.

Don't know what you think I'm lying about DF, but you can give me as many of those little flags as you like.

Tell me how ya'll prevented that tyranny.

You're a liar, lying.

Voting both sides was extortion, and ya'll got a proper discussion of the issues long prior to the HF. I myself undertook it.

I told ya'll then what would happen, and it happened.

Bitch all you want. Lying now doesn't change anything.

Isn't it time to stop worrying about Steem and focus on develop HIVE?

Or is kind of stuff will be a constant from the HIVE witness?

Interestingly there is no hard fork that would effect any change ? I thought once its taken over, there would be massive change favoring Sun ?

One of the new witnesses, soon to be top 20

I still can't understand why we can't let go of the obsession of a petty man and an inferior chain and focus on what makes our new chain better.

we can do both, imagine you were building a really nice bike from the ground up every bolt you tightened, and your crank went in smoothly, you painted it nice and took it for a spin...it runs so smoothly. Then you wake up one morning and your bike is gone, some guy named Justin stole your bike. Thats how the community feels, countless devs for steem spent countless hours working on steem, they put their name to it, they have every right to turn around and tell the public its not a decentralized blockchain

Great info. Thanks for pulling together and sharing it! Just helps to confirm we made the right choice splitting and moving!

They buy accounts to replace puppets 'ok' - we knew that.
They bribe people to pledge loyalty 'ok' - we knew that.

I don't fully understand, so it's the same admin/settings/interface maybe even Datacenter? What HAS TO BE 100% in line to create sync price feeds?

purely speculation, but I suspect they're using a control server and pushing it out to look like multiple servers

The TRON Foundation is a pro-level DPoS manipulator. If it's possible then it might be the trick for them.

I invite you @therealwolf to check out The Matrix-8 Platform as a decentralised user interactive system of governance which can be used for any community.

I am seeking developers to build the system and a community (Perhaps this Hive Governance Community) to trial the system.

There is a thread developing here which helps bring more understanding about how Matrix-8 will work.

Your feedback would be much appreciated.

They are animals.

.

Sun admitted in an interview that his plan was to steal all Steem devs and have them start developing on the Tron blockchain, Sun brags about having over 700 dapps running on tron then why did he want steem devs so bad, but most of the big apps to come out of tron were made by Tron themselves not the community, this is the same cycle different chain

Source on that interview, please.

skip ahead to 38 minutes

Awesome! I'll have an opportunity to check it out here in a bit, thanks for following up.

Look at his head movements. Is he on some kind of drug or is that parkinsons?

hehe, nah man maybe some speed, or maybe his snake genes showing through making em get all slithery

Seems pretty obvious.

Very interesting.. It also seems that Justin Sun manipulate the price of Steem in some exchanges to have a higher market cap and a better positioning in Coinmarketcap ranking. I write about it here

I really cannot believe this happened to Steem at ''the end''. Wait when they remove downvotes.. LOL

That's why I started my NEW witness here on Hive running 0.23.0, screw bending over for sun no matter how big a vote was promised... I would rather take a year grinding my way up from the bottom (like I am) contributing to the community rather then be a hire sock puppet to resemble legitimacy though the whole blockchain community can see. Its Disgusting that people are ok with selling out like that without earning it. I haven't been following over there since I left so I appreciate the post. Good to see the Fakes!

I'm just wondering how long until it craps out and they can't fix the blockchain and scammed it to death.

Justin Scam... Total loser with too much money and he deserves to lose it on this gamble.

leave steem while you can
steem burning.jpg

It's actually interesting to see how it will unfold in the end. All I know is that I choose Hive over Steem now!

Interesting. I'm really done with STEEM and focused on creating some getting started tutorials for HIVE right now, but it is still entertaining to see just how far Justin has decided to take his little coup. LOL. Thanks for the comic relief. Hope you're well.

Great explanation for the not so techy guys. Really breaks it down and shines a light on the SunTron deception.

@therealwolf
There's a world-wide tornado on the way to sweep our world clean of corruption, with a new equitable system of bottom up multi-level governance. Do you understand Matrix-8?

Especially if you're a Hive Witness, i strongly in-courage you get up to speed before the tornado comes to town, (along with many million new Hive users).

Hive can protect itself with integral governance, or there could well be another split. I vote for the former. I hope you do too.

Integrity is the real Power
Which will come from this tornado shower
Be prepared, Be informed
You have been warned

I think there's really no point fighting Steem anymore.
