The avalanche of German bands at the end of the eighties under the success of Helloween was so great that soon everyone was talking about “German metal” as the new movement to follow. Gamma Ray, Rage or Blind Guardian were some of the figures of a scene that has kept the flame of the most classic heavy metal burning during the 90s. These bands have become over time inevitable references for metal fans, mainly in the European territory, and Blind Guardian is the one that has achieved the most important status.
La avalancha de bandas alemanas vivida a finales de los ochenta al amparo del éxito de Helloween fue tan grande que pronto todo el mundo hablaba del “metal alemán” como el nuevo movimiento al que seguirle la pista. Gamma Ray, Rage o Blind Guardian fueron algunas de las figuras de una escena que ha mantenido encendida durante los 90 la llama del heavy mas clásico. Estos grupos se han convertido con el paso del tiempo en referencias inevitables para los fans del metal, principalmente en el territorio europeo, y Blind Guardian es el que ha alcanzado un estatus mas importante.
Although in their beginnings they were too much influenced by the Helloween sound, with the passing of time they have forged a more than recognizable identity, recording masterpieces of the style. “Batallions Of Fear” and ‘Follow The Blind’ were their first references, and in them a huge potential was already glimpsed, but it was undoubtedly ‘Tales From The Twilight World’, an album much appreciated by their fans, which would place them at the head of the German scene. In the early 90's Blind Guardian would achieve an impressive popularity throughout Europe while traditional heavy music was generally going through a rough patch.
Aunque en sus comienzos estaban demasiado influenciados por el sonido Helloween, con el paso del tiempo han forjado una identidad mas que reconocible registrando obras maestras del estilo. “Batallions Of Fear” y “Follow The Blind” fueron sus primeras referencias, y en ellas ya se vislumbraba un potencial enorme, pero sin duda fue “Tales From The Twilight World”, disco muy apreciado por sus fans, el que les colocaría a la cabeza de la escena alemana. En los primeros años de los 90 Blind Guardian lograría una popularidad impresionante en toda Europa mientras el heavy tradicional estaba en general atravesando una mala racha.

More and more engrossed in the medieval world and Tolkien's stories, they began to create works that bordered on the conceptual, recreating a renewed epic philosophy. The next step would be “Imaginations From The Other Side”, bestseller in the old continent with which their fans increase at an unstoppable pace.

Such is the demand for material from their followers, that the company decided to release an album of rarities called “The Forgotten Tales” prior to the arrival of “Nightfall In Middle Earth”, one of their most daring and mature works. Since that distant 1998 the band has been dedicated to the gestation of “A Night In The Opera”, recently released plastic that has awakened an absolute euphoria from the followers of European metal. People were anxious to know what the band's next release would sound like, and the advance single of the album was hard in the stores, as the saying goes, less than a candy at the door of a school, the album itself also promises to generate a substantial collection, as it has already sold at a very good pace. Even the band did not expect such a reception. Blind Guardian has just reached the top, and despite having almost no repercussion in the USA, they can be proud to have in their hands the rudder with which to steer the ship of European heavy metal.
Tal es el punto de demanda de material por parte de sus seguidores, que la compañía decide publicar un disco de rarezas llamado “The Forgotten Tales” previo a la llegada de “Nightfall In Middle Earth”, una de sus obras mas arriesgadas y maduras. Desde aquel lejano 1998 la banda se ha dedicado a gestar “A Night In The Opera”, recién publicado plástico que ha despertado una euforia absoluta de los seguidores del metal europeo. La gente estaba ansiosa de saber como sonaria lo próximo de la banda, y el single de adelanto del álbum duro en las tiendas, como dice el dicho, menos que un caramelo a la puerta de un colegio, el álbum en si promete también generar una sustanciosa recaudación, pues ya ha vendido a muy buen ritmo. Ni el grupo se esperaba tal acogida. Blind Guardian acaba de alcanzar la cima, y pese a no haber obtenido casi repercusión en los USA, si que pueden estar orgullosos de tener ahora mismo en sus manos el timon con el que dirigir el barco del heavy metal europeo.
