MOTT THE HOOPLE

Theme:ALL THE YOUNG DUDES.
Disc:All The Young Dudes.
Year:1972.

Relegated to the second row of 70's rock, Mott The Hoople stuck their head among the greats with this generational slogan signed by their friend and admirer David Bowie, which fit their glam sound of the time like a glove.

MOTT THE HOOPLE

Bowie reached one of his peak as a composer, but the song would go down in history in the hands of Ian Hunter and his boys, who turned it into a monumental hit. The refined and crystalline guitar sound of Mick Ralphs was in charge of starting the melancholic piece, which Hunter, always hidden behind his blond and curly hair and his sunglasses, sang with that nasal voice like Dylan.

“All The Young Dudes” was about a teenager looking for inspiration in the rock bands of those delicious early 70s, and in fact the lyrics quote the name of one of the capital bands of those years, the inimitable and glamorous T-REX of the star Marc Bolan. Bowie gave a necessary push to the band by giving them the song, but Hunter also knew how to stamp his own stamp on it, giving it a character more akin to the search for the vital integrity of teenagers.

The result was one of those choruses that are sung more with the heart than with the throat. In fact, this was the only song along with Bowie's own “Heroes” that was not part of the Queen songbook in the section dedicated to their repertoire of the massive concert in memory of Freddie Mercury held at Wembley Stadium on April 20, 92 with the participation of an exorbitant cast of stars; nobody seemed to know Ian Hunter among all of them, but almost the entire audience was able to sing the hymn “All The Young Dudes” without knowing who was that strange guy with exaggerated glasses and “Magic Johnson” T-shirt.

My people I hope you have a great day, and that you enjoy this great report about this song, an incredible rock ballad, song of this band which is not a super famous band, but they left a mark in their passage through the music and this song is part of their legacy. I hope you like it and I invite you to listen to the song which I leave here in the post. With nothing more to say I'll see you in a new post with more of the legendary rock songs. A thousand blessings and happy Sunday.
